Your Grand Dad's Jaguar.

I guess I’m a bit weird - I’ve never thought of the E-type as especially beautiful - it didn't seem to have good proportions to my eye. But what do I know, huh? The Sunbeam, on the other hand, is sports car personified - small and agile. I think those attributes are what has made the Miata so successful.

I do think the XKE is a beautiful car.
I agree about the Sunbeam and Miata.
I am partial but I say the same thing about my Mini Cooper S.
Perhaps a mis-type? XK130 not found in my research, just 120, 140, 150. For my money, the 150 is one of the most beautiful automobiles ever produced. Currently have a '99 XJR, which is one of the best cars I've had in the past sixty years.
Wrong, Ringo, when I think Jaguar the first thing that comes to my mind is a Jaguar XKE roadster, most beautiful car I have ever seen. Great series, BTW.
Spectacular car, I remember the E class. A friend from a long time ago that worked for the Highway Patrol, said that was the only car that got away from him. This was probably in the early 70's. Great design.
I actually test drove one in 68 or 69. Convertible.

The triple SUs with, by the way, non-original pancake air cleaners, were lots of fun to tune.
Aha...I thought those air cleaners looked strange. My '67 had the trip SUs but not those air cleaners.
I bought a tool from JC Whitney to sync the carbs. It had a small ball in a clear cylinder that floated within the cylinder and the idea was to get the ball to float to the same level on all 3...then do it again. (rinse, lather, repeat).
I had an enormous repair manual titled "The Complete Jaguar E" that came in really handy.

Would not recognize the first car as a Jag, but I am old enough to see and fondly remember the E-types running the streets. The E was an awesome machine in looks as well as mechanically. As I recall it had a top speed of 130+ MPH with the 3.8 DOHC in line six. And then there was the V-12 too. IMHO the DOHC in-line six was the perfect package for this car. I wanted one, but could not afford one as a new family man, so had to be satisfied by drooling over them.
I believe the top speed on the 3.8 litre, like my 4.2 litre was 150mph.
I took mine up to 130mph just once after I got it and took my hands off the steering wheel. It drove straight as an arrow and still had plenty of power left, but I had to slow for a tunnel ahead and was getting off the highway right after the tunnel.
I don't believe I took it over 90 after that. An interesting note the range in 2nd gear was from 5 mph to 90 mph.
Me too, and I drooled. I occasionally carpooled in one with an exotic Car lover--Programming manager who had a loving wife and NO KIDS!

I think the E type would be in the top 10 greatest car designs of all time.
Nice shots.
I agree, they are beautiful, sleek automobiles. But as a kid I was totally enamored with the 1950's XK models! Still am.
IMHO the design of the E type is one of the best ever.

Nice photos. I was there but haven't done anything with my photos yet. I did shoot a lot of that Jaguar. Nice day, but I was disappointed with the turnout of our Sunbeams, only 3, usually we have 5 or 6.
Please show the Sunbeam shots. I had a ‘65 Tiger.
Beautifully photographed classics, ringo.
