I like the idea of a single-use credit card for occasional purchases. Have any of you used them? I was reminded of this idea because I got an email about a subscription that did not renew, fortunately, because my credit card was replaced.
Yes.
I use them for first-time internet transactions with new vendors.
I also tend to use them in restaurants, after having one of my regular cards hi-jacked.
What happens if you don't use all that's loaded on the card?
I’m thinking you are referring to prepaid one time are reloadable credit cards. If that is what you are asking about then yes I use them a lot. When traveling I purchase several $200. Increments. I use them to pay for gas and incidental expenses along the way. I also will use them for online purchases from companies I may not be formular with. They limit my liability if stolen.

i use them when i go online to use a site that tells me i can try out there site for a trial run and only cost me 1 dollar for three days then goes up to a higher price per month like 30 bucks ..i get a card for 20 and they cant charge me for anymore months the site that i do that too are the ones that tell me i have a bad ding on my record or someone i know does and it always turns out they are wrong
What happens if you must return an item?

I have had restaurant workers (wait staff) help themselves to my credit card info and then go on a shopping spree. So now I use only cash but I think a single-use credit card would be a good alternative to cash. Am I wrong ??
Try privacy.com. No cost if you generate only 10 cards per month. I use it regularly for subscriptions and for vendors I have never used before especially these people who in the fine print tell you that the charge quietly converts to monthly.

Can someone please direct me to where prepaid one time are reloadable credit cards are obtained.
Is it like a Visa credit card or more like a 'gift' card?
My local Frys grocery store has them.

Jerry, I've used them and I will continue to do so for purchases that we make from places where we deal with more private our unknown individuals. The card that I use for this purpose is able to be reloaded so we are never at risk for more that what is on the card which is near the amount purchased. I got it a Walmart and because it nearby we go there frequently for groceries so it is easy to add to the card for something we want to buy from someplace like Ebay or where PayPal is not a choice.

As long as you report a stolen regular credit card within a couple of days, there is no liability. Also, if you notice charges that aren’t yours on your statement, the credit card company will reverse them for you. The fraud department of credit card companies are quick to contact you if they notice suspicious transactions as well.
I have heard that people run into liability problems with DEBIT card charges though, although I don’t know that for a fact.
I have a CitiCard credit card that I use only as a source for Virtual Account Numbers. I can set up a virtual account number for any amount I choose, that is good for any number of Months I choose - I set mine for 1 month, and it can be used only once. I use this for all online purchases. That way I have no credit card on file that can be hacked no matter how secure the place is (or isn't.)
