Post a sample image. Maybe it's camera movement. It's not easy to hand-hold the equivalent of a 900mm lens. A full frame would give you a 600mm angle of view, which is on the edge of handholdability.

I would attach the camera and lens to a solid (expensive) tripod and head and see if you still have an issue before going down the rabbit hole of using the dock to fine tune the focus on the lens, or selling your Sony.

I have attached 9 photos taken with my lens. Camera is on a tripod and I just stayed in place and zoomed to the next full measure shown on the lens. Used auto setting. Can you see how the focus keeps getting softer as I zoom farther and farther? Is this a problem with the lens? Is it me? Thanks for any help and advice!!

Then you have a defective lens - did you buy it used ?? Have you tried to do a focus calibration with the Sigma USB dock ??

The focus, colour and pretty much everything is off in these shots for some reason...what are your camera settings..?
I downloaded one but there is no Exif (Meta) data..?
I've had my Sigma 150-600 "C" for a couple of years now and it's very sharp on both my D7200 and my D500...
Ron.

Hi all, I'm still a pretty green novice, but I'm enthusiastic (and retired, so fixed income) I have a little Nikon d3300 and love it for it's ease of use. I have a nice variety of lenses that I am able to use successfully. However, I purchased a Sigma 150-600 (see topic heading) and have had a terrible time getting a sharp focus. Apparently I need a higher end Nikon. I own an entry level Sony a230 and have a great telephoto lens that I use with it. Considering trading the Sony + lens for a Nikon that will work with the Sigma lens. Any suggestions? I'm hoping to do this in an affordable manner. Thank you.

I’ve had this lens since last Christmas and happen to be pretty much satisfied with its performance on my Nikon D750. Its not a super fast one, but does a good job, even on BIFs. Hope you carefully red the manual, otherwise check the lens and the camera settings, take into account the minimal distance to a subject at various focal length. Since you shoot DX, you should make a x1,5 correction. Also, check if OS (optical stabilization) is switched off when using a tripod. These are very basic things that might help. Good luck, Sew! Thanks.

I had a dickens of a time getting my 150-600C to focus on my Canon 7Dii. Some shots were sharp but most were just a little soft. I got a little better results after tweaking the focus parameters with the docking station. What really made all the different was updating the firmware on my 7D. After I did that I reset the lens back to factory default.

Its a great lens but you have to learn to work with its limitations. Focus is not that fast. Be patient. Capturing a bird in flight is a matter of luck at 600mm, but I have had some success at shorter focal lengths.

Note - I bought the lens for birding but really like it for taking sailing shots from the dock.
- At 600mm, try to keep the exposure at 1/1000 or faster
- Use a monopod/tripod
- avoid shooting wide open

I use mine for wildlife photography, mostly birds and find it very fast on my D7200 and my D500. Never had an issue of any sort right out of the box...
Five shots taken in one second (D500) in rapid fire mode...hand held, manual mode and Grp focus points...distance, approx. 60-70 meters. 600mm (900mm, 35mm equivalent)

I also own and work with that lens. I think that it is a great lens as long as you work in good light, I have found that it doesn't like low light or deep cloudy days. Try comparing your bright light images and dark day images and you will see a marked difference.

From the pictures, it looks as though your autofocus might be the issue. You might have a look at that. Are you hand holding? Are you using image stabilization? Do you use a tripod? if not maybe try using one.
