Hi all, I'm still a pretty green novice, but I'm enthusiastic (and retired, so fixed income) I have a little Nikon d3300 and love it for it's ease of use. I have a nice variety of lenses that I am able to use successfully. However, I purchased a Sigma 150-600 (see topic heading) and have had a terrible time getting a sharp focus. Apparently I need a higher end Nikon. I own an entry level Sony a230 and have a great telephoto lens that I use with it. Considering trading the Sony + lens for a Nikon that will work with the Sigma lens. Any suggestions? I'm hoping to do this in an affordable manner. Thank you.

I have the same lens, i have used it on a d4 aD810 and a d5200 , you can calibrate that lens using a
Sigma dock. That may be the way to go before spending lots of money on a new camera.
First, you should set your camera and lens up on a tripod and make sure that your problem isn't camera shake. Make sure that your shutter speed is high enough to eliminate shake, also.
I actually did all that, plus used a remote shutter trigger. I can't even get a sharp visual in the viewfinder.

My wife just took my sigma 150-600 contemporary. It performs great on her d3300. I honestly have no idea what is happening with you. I just wanted you to be aware that the lens will work well on a d3300
Hmmm....thank you. I'm simply not getting sharp focus.

I have the dock but never used it to change focus. My wife gets sharp pics with it and I did also with my D5oo. Maybe try it on another camera and ensure it is not in need of repair

Post a sample image. Maybe it's camera movement. It's not easy to hand-hold the equivalent of a 900mm lens. A full frame would give you a 600mm angle of view, which is on the edge of handholdability.
I would attach the camera and lens to a solid (expensive) tripod and head and see if you still have an issue before going down the rabbit hole of using the dock to fine tune the focus on the lens, or selling your Sony.
Ok, thanks. As soon as I'm able I'll post a picture.
I use it with a D750 and D5000; no problems.

I use that lens on a D500 and it is very sharp especially on a cropped frame camera. Get yourself a Sigma dock and fine-tune it to your Nikon body. It looks like it is a new lens so you can always send it back to Sigma just to rule out you didn't get a bad lens (if your not able to calibrate with the Dock)
Good suggestion. Thank you.
Don't blame the "little D3300"; your problems lie elsewhere.

I use mine on a Nikon D7500 and it's fantastic. I see some people have to calibrate the lens but mine has worked flawlessly out of the box. I do have a D3200 too, but have never tried it on that body. You have me wondering now. I'll have to give it a try on the D3200 and see how it works
