Probably habit. I've done this for years. Probably time to learn a new trick.

First of all, I am not interested in importing pictures from the cell phone. The problem is after I have copied the files from the camera into the location I want to store them on the PC and then attempt to import them from that location into Lightroom, I find that if my cell phone is currently connected to the computer so that it can charge, the import doesn't work.
If I unplug the cell phone from the computer, then everything is fine and I can import.
I have searched preferences in Lightroom to see if there is a way to prevent the computer from doing this, but didn't find anything that might make this work.
It is basically a nuisance type problem since all I have to do is unplug the cell phone from the computer. And then after the import is complete, I can plug it in again -- if I remember.

We should all have such problems...ya do what ya gotta do, unplug the phone and charge it elsewhere.

Why can't you charge the phone in an ordinary power plug?

Maybe not all the photos need to be imported (but are wanted on the PC for some reason). Part of the culling process.
Funny!!!
That sounds like some weird car problems, like when signaling left makes the horn honk.

No need to attempt to diagnose. This is a subtle, yet widely known, issue with LR classic and Android phones.
Have you tried changing the phone setting to charge only?

I have 2 charging hubs that I use to charge electronic items that periodically need charging.
I never use any of my computers to charge things.

This is the weirdest thread that I think I've read on UHH. No one seems interested in the OP's problem. Maybe it is a known problem with Adobe but why not just say so upfront without all the crap about using a charger for the phone. The OP is aware that he can unplug his phone, import into LR and then plug it back in but I agree with him, he shouldn't have to do so. It is nice that none of the rest of you need to charge your phone from your computer but that isn't the case for everyone. In my computer room, between switches, routers, printers, my Smartthings hub, external ethernet hard drives, VoIP device and other devices, even with multiple power strips and a UPS, I'm out of electrical outlets. The idea of UHH, or so I thought, is to help one another and bounce ideas off of one another. I found one suggestion that might have been helpful to the OP and one stating this was a known issue. What were all the rest, just to hear yourself talk? Even if this is not a big issue for you, it bothers the OP enough for him to take the time to post. Most of these answers do not encourage others to post their issues as they don't wish to have others point out that their problems are insignificant.

I suspect your phone's manufacturer limits certain processes during charging.
Yes, this sounds like an issue with your phone, not Lightroom. A phone gets warm while charging, and a phone gets warm while performing significant tasks. Put the two together and it can get too hot, especially if the phone is in a protective case, and especially on a warm day. Over the years, and on more than one occasion on different phones, I've challenged mine sufficiently to overheat them. This always and only happened during charging and performing either multiple or processor-intense tasks.
My current phone, which I use as my home broadband source, reduces wi-fi speeds (bandwidth) when it gets too hot -- and this only happens while charging. I unplug the charger and speeds go back to normal, and after a half-hour or so, I resume charging and all's well. This is probably the next-generation of heat prevention, so instead of disabling certain concurrent tasks, it monitors heat and throttles them.

Several years ago I had a similar experience. The details are no longer clear to me - it seems like LR would not launch at all, but maybe it wouldn't import, like you are experiencing. At any rate, removing the phone from the computer resolved the problem, and I always make sure the phone isn't in the loop when I use LR.
Yup another Adobe screw up. Lol

Was your long, off topic diatribe meant to be humorous. It worked. I chuckled through it. Also, there have been many off topic posts on other threads that put these wanderings to shame. I find it part of the fun of UHH.

Why should Adobe worry about people charging their cell phones? Their software in question is a photo processing app.
