Ummm, yes, I agree. I have the 100M7 and NEVER have noise like shown in the first picture. It is not a great low light camera, but not noisy either.
Hi SonyBug,
I intentionally made the photo noisy so that I could see how well DeNoise AI could improve it. F/5, 1/1000, ISO 3200. I processed the RAW BTW rather than the jpeg.

Nice. On1 is going to have an uphill battle with it's version of DeNoise.
Hi jerryc41,
I have ordered ON1 NoNoise AI which is to be released this month. My plan it to process this image (RAW) with it and compare it to that of DeNoise AI. Should be interesting for a single data point anyway.

I haven’t had much luck with Denoise--I must be doing something wrong. Any hints?
Maybe you are using the AUTO mode to allow the program to select the settings. So far I have found that DeNoise AI works well, but just selecting the AUTO mode is rather hit or miss. Try other settings.

Which of the 4 functions did you use - standard, severe, clear or low light? Did you try them all to see what worked best? What was the photo's ISO to tell how much DeNoise actually did other than some sharpening?
Hi pithydoug,
I used Clear, Remove Noise set to High, Enhance Sharpness set to High, Recover Original Detail set to 93, and Color Noise Reduction set to 85. I intentionally took a noisy photo to test DeNoise AI. F/5, 1/1000, ISO 3200.
I tried the AUTO feature, Standard, Severe Noise, all of the Remove Noise and Enhance Resolution choices. AUTO selected Clear, and :ow for the Remove Noise and Enhance Resolution choices. My assessment of the AUTO choice is that the results were marginally better than the original photo. Like most programs, the user needs to still be the pilot.
Since there has been some comment about what if the RX100 VII had been set for ISO 64 and then see if DeNoise AI could be of value, I took a shot at F/5.6, ISO 64, 1/320. The other was taken before the tree was directly illuminated by the Sun and the new one was taken when it was directly illuminated. DeNoise AI set as before.
You be the judge.

The EXIF data has been stripped from both attachments. It would be better the EXIF data is included in files presented for discussion and review. The AI version increased the sharpening as a solid improvement. There was no noise in the original to remove. If shooting in JPEG, you might consider updating the in-camera sharpening setting to achieve more sharpening with no additional processing.

I think this is a nice example of DeNoise AI doing its job. The photo was taken with a Sony RX100 VII.
Nice comparison. I keep hearing so much about Topaz DeNoise AI I guess I'm going to have to try it.
