Especially for advanced camera set ups, Maarten Heilbron can't be beat. His presentations are comprehensive, extremely useful, but often quite long.

Matt Granger gives candid reviews along with valuable information about photography in general. He should be included on any list.

I've learned a great deal from the Northrups, but perhaps there could be less click bait in their titles. E.g. titles like "camera type x or brand x is dying".

Gordon Liang (sp?) is another you tuber I try to keep up with.

Rockwell is controversial; for example, he only shoots in jpeg (which might not provide the best example for beginners) and sometimes is prone to extreme claims not elsewhere found.

Finally, although he probably could give more attention to brands other than Nikon, I've learned much from Thom Hogan. But you have to go to his site; I don't think he's appeared on You tube.

Keep on clicken.

There's a vast number of very competent presentations on youtube that can be quite instructional. In some cases, I've learned small snippets of information from an entire presentation. In some cases, I've combined those snippets to incorporate them into a number of steps when processing.

However, one of the worst sources of information are videos presented by Tony Northrup and his wife.

I didn't care for the Northrups, either.

Anybody who lists Kai W, whose YouTube channel is the most shambolic on the web, should be suspect.

Thanks for all the replies! I find the Northrups unwatchable for some reason.............they seem more like professional You Tubers, than professional photographers?

Which are good youtube channels is an interesting question. There are those we watch to learn about gear, those we watch to learn about technique and some just to be entertained. There several that I follow. I tend not to care for those people who shout or who fling their cameras around. I am not a big fan of that bald headed fellow in the silk shirts who sits before a fireplace shown on a computer screen. There are others, often young fellows who try different cameras and film and share the experience with us. I'd include Frederick Trevotten, Willem Verbeeck, and Grainy Days in this group. For landscape photography, I watch Thomas Heaton and really like Mads Peter Iverson. For street photography, I like Street Snappers by Brian Lloyd Duckett. The Photographic Eye is thoughtful as is Hugh Brownstone whose site 3 Men and and Elephant is well produced and presented. I'd watch Sean Tucker who discusses matters of life and applies these to photography or is he applying matters of photography to life? I agree that Ken Rockwell is both fun and useful. I agree with yssirk about the Northrups and the attack on Steve McCurry. They got taken to the woodshed pretty good over that one. Yes there are many good youtube photography sites, but after about so long looking at them, it is time to grab a camera and head out the door.

Steve Perry (Backcountry Gallery)is an excellent author of many instructional e-publications and you tube videos. His e-books are reasonably priced and chock full of how to instructions. I have learned soooo much from his e-books and it has taken my photography to a new level. He is also a member of this forum and his responses to posts are very helpful.
Aside from Steve Perry Backcountry Gallery on youtube, there is Beyond Photography with Andrew. His instructional course prices are very reasonable and I find his youtube videos very informative.
Others have already provided other links so I will not duplicate them here.

The angry photographer he is the best, he tells it like it is and how to use old but great lenses and saving money. That is all I need. I use old lenses and have no problem, just my 2 cents.

I just google whatever my question or interest is and watch the top hits. Take the good and leave the bad. The cult of personality discourages me from following them exclusively.

I learned alot from the angry photographer when I was getting started buying equipment. Many great old school lenses including one from his own collection. I dont follow his metaphysics.

Perry seems to be the least biased and he has deeply studied Nikon systems. Northrup hasn't impressed my since he tried to make the case that polarizers and ND filters are obsolete when those are the only filters that will never be obsolete.
