I used a 3 stop ND filter. My settings are ISO 100, f18, 30 second exposure. I don't do many long exposures but sometimes the scene beckons it. My only dilemma was the wind blurred a few branches on this one.

I like to get black backgrounds on many of my nudibranch shots. It really makes them pop out. This particular shot was in clear, shallow water at Catalina Island. I had to crank the f/stop knob to f/45on this guy.

Gorgeous Max! I had to read up on this critter. You captured it very well. F 45! I think one of my lenses will go to 32! Thanks for sharing. I am sure not too many of us have seen such a creature!
These are not new...I thought that since it is pouring rain here today and likely in other areas I would post a few from the past.
I almost always am carrying around my Sigma 150 - 600 lens. I enjoy looking for birds and animals and capturing them in their natural habitat. That said...most of the time I am out in the early morning or late afternoon/evening when there is a lot of back lighting. I quickly learned that this lens works well for taking photos of small plants etc. as it blurs out the background very nicely.
If you are having problems coming up with new ideas please post some photos from your files or just take something new and let us know what or why you took that photo. Was it lighting or your favourite subject and what camera/lens did you use.
Don't feel you cannot post if you have not tried something new! This challenge is for the fun of learning and sharing. Check out your archives and look at some of your favourite photos. What did you like about them and what camera and/or lens settings did you use? Was it your phone or iPad? Did you use a special lens and why?
An example of something I did last year... My nephew was doing target practice and setting a sight on his rifle. I watched for quite a while and he posed for a few. Then we decided that I would try and catch a photo of him breaking a water filled balloon. What we decided was the best way to try was for him to have his finger on the trigger ready to shoot and he would say "now" When he did I held my finger on the shutter release hoping to catch a shot.
Then he aimed at a small cap off of a bottle to see if I could catch it.. Yup... got lucky!

I just lost a post - not loading fast enough. Let's try again. One of the first pieces of advice someone gave me when I got my first digital was "read the manual!!" And I did and still read the manuals for my cameras - often more than once and have also downloaded the manuals or links to them to my phone. I haven't fooled with in camera effects for some time but I will before the challenge is over. Meanwhile: archives for multiple exposure
Nice effect on all Pat pg1
