Getting pretty long-in-the-tooth. If there are a lot of clicks that have accumulated after a dozen+ years of heavy use, maybe this is your opportunity to argue your case for a new, or at least much younger model?

I've tried everything. The manual is useless.
Thanks

To my knowledge all Nikon DSLR cameras require that the lens aperture be set at the highest F. stop.

You are correct, but the error message is "EE," NOT "Err" as the OP said. It is described on page 132 of the User's Manual (camera malfunction). Probably not worth repairing.

I have 2 D80 camera and one has a focusing drive motor problem, the drive gear is stripped, the other is a great 10 mp. camera, easy to use and good images. I have a few dozen better cameras but still use it occasionally.

You're probably in the market for a new camera? The D80 was discontinued in 2008. There's plenty in the used market, although a slightly newer model, even used, should be considered. The body is too old with too little value to warrant throwing money into a possible repair. Consider KEH.com as a respected source of used equipment. On the same product tier as the D80 is the next D90 or the entire D7xxx series.

And if all else fails, take out the battery and then reinsert it. You would not believe how often this has worked.
