Hopefully not in just a few years. You're right, though. My YASHICAmat shutter release is jammed. It's probably cheaper to replace the camera.
Everything I've seen indicates that Nikon will be focusing primarily on their mirrorless line rather than DSLR's. I just purchased an 850, trading in my old 810 and I don't think either are going to be "obsolete" anytime soon.
Sorry Will, the date on that was January 2020, a year and a half ago, (ie Light Years!) If it was going to happen, it already would have!)

I love my D850 so much that at the new rate of 2499 I may buy another. Used bodies are at 2119 to 2469 (MPB)so may as well buy a new one. There is nothing I can do that it can’t and so many things it can do that I can’t/ don’t. I would agree that it is probably the end of Nikon Dslrs.
So, the Z7II plus an FTZ is the actual D880. This is not shocking. Those not distracted by click bait “D880” rumors had seen it coming from waaaay back.
Z9 ? D6 Mark II ? Nobody listened to Cassandra cuz her prophesy was too inconvenient and discomforting. (She favors the Z9, just BTW.)

Well ... that, plus properly fitting shoes.

I wish to upgrade my format to Full FX.
Does anyone know about Nikon's plans for a new model such as a D860 or D900?
I do not wish to purchase a D850 and have it out of date in the near future.
(I currently have a D500 which I will sell, and two FX lenses.)
Thanks.
. Hello Jim Pitt. I possibly might be interested in d500. What’s the cost on camera and which lenses are they.

That's your opinion I think the D780 is overpriced especially compared to the D850.

I have used both cameras and own the D850. I much prefer its user interface, which is designed to work much more efficiently. And the pricing of the 750/780 does not fairly reflect its lower resolution. The D850 has equivalent measured low light/ISO performance at twice the resolution. I have never been able to understand the claim that it is "better."

It probably will be the same body, just upgraded features.

Does anyone out there want to buy a Z6II with a FTZ adapter, Battery hand grip, and an extra EN-EL15c Battery. I'm going to start looking for a D500
Whatever you buy, it will "soon' become obsolete. I shoot with a D850 which replaced my D800. I don't know what "improvements" a new "D860" would provide unless it made me lunch.
