The fact that there is a screen should answer your question

I immediately recognized its layout and buttons as a Canon. It is the back of a Canon R. Here is an image of a Canon R that I cropped similarly to the image you posted. I also am posting the entire rear panel I cropped it from. The Canon R is currently selling for $1800 on Adorama. The camera you posted looks grey in color, the image I attached is also grey but a bit darker. I believe the grey color of your image, and the one I posted is just a result of lighting and exposure as the actual camera is much darker and closer to black.
I immediately recognized its layout and buttons as... (show quote)

Absolutely correct! I also recognized it immediately, being the proud owner of the R

Okay, if possible, I would love to know if anyone, here at UHH, can identify this camera. Sorry about the very limited photo!

The “Professional Photographer” claims that it cost her $9k and her lens was $5k! I am disputing this with my girlfriend!

Thanks in advance!

She got ripped off for the $9k camera (Canon R)...depending on the lens $5k could be a ripoff or the deal of the century. Welcome to that new game show - "Name That Photo Gear"...

Yeah, the kind of ring you can get from a gumball machine.

$5,000 doesn't buy much in the way of engagement rings these days.

I bought my wife her 1.62 carat diamond in the late 80's, and it was more than twice that, and
I've had it appraised by a different dealer at slightly more than that...just sayin'

Doesn't appear to be well cared for.

Yeah looks dirty! But then she is a pro. I think Pros don't treat their gear as well as amateurs do. I know I don't baby my tools but I care for my cameras a lot as they are my toys.

Why would anyone exaggerate the value of their camera and lens?

Maybe that's what she paid for it.

One of two things:

Your girl friend is either untruthful.

Or your girl friend is really stupid if she paid 9k for the camera.

In either case, if it were me, I'd find a new girl friend.

The OP didn't state that it was his girlfriend that made the claim, only that he and his girlfriend were debating the validity of the claim. You shouldn't sling insults at people if you know what the story is.

The flagship cameras of Nikon, Canon, and Sony all run from 6500 to 7200, so that would give you some clue your photographer might be stretching the truth -- unless it has Leica stamped across the front!

Looks like the Canon EOS R - it has that stupid slider switch instead of a joystick - and this is clearly a Canon - it has the tell tale star button on the back. Its definitely not a 9k camera no matter what it is though - that much is very clear.

I think you're right! The OP didn't get back with us and explain further but I guess if his girl friend own the camera he should have a better picture of it. One with the brand and model number on. So I guess they don't have access to the camera. They may be debating should they hire her for their wedding????b
