Bob, as an old photographer you know there is a place for color as there is a place for monochrome. Ansel Adams was well known all over the world as an excellent b&w photographer and a magician when it came to using the darkroom. Mr. Adams also dedicated part of his time to color photography. There is a place for both. I have spent many years of my life in a darkroom working b&w images and when image conversion to b&w started with digital I was totally lost although when editing b&w softwares began to be introduced I was once again into monochrome photography although I could not discover with the new technologies the tonalities I was used to when using film.
Now I am doing better with conversions, not perfect and I still have a long way to go but I am working on it. Your image is as beautiful as is your colorful subject.
Fred, when one is presented with a subject such as this, capturing the color was necessary. So, it's just one reason and that reason was perched on a rock. --Bob
