As you all may remember I was offered a D850 with 11K shots for $2500. Many though this was too much for a used D850 so I passed as the guy would not budge on price. Yesterday found a listing for a Nikon D850 with 926 shots in new condition. No box or manuals but everything else and 2 batteries. Wanted $2300 but got him down to $1950. Serial number is 3081152 which would indicate a US model. Just have to drive 200 miles to Grand Raipids, MI to pick it up as he will not ship.

I don't remember; refresh my memory

How can you tell how many shots were taken with a camera? I have a Nikon D7100.

Take a photo with your D7100, JPG or NEF, does not matter.

Upload said photo to https://www.camerashuttercount.com/

Site will tell you the current shutter count.

Photo is NOT saved to site.

Also bring a wide angle, prime & zoom

Bring both large and table-top tripods, right angle bracket, panorama bracket, pair of walkie-talkies, a laptop or tablet, solar charger, reflectors, and fill lights. Great optics hardly matter without a proper set of accessories to maximize them to their best effect.

To make room for these essentials, your wide angle, prime, or zoom may get left out, saving substantial weight.

You've made an excellent decision opting for camera #2. Even though these cameras are designed to last for thousands of images you want the option that gives you the longest time with your camera. I was thrilled to purchase a refurbished Nikon D810 with only 176 shots. I have wanted the 810 for a very long time and there are no plans to upgrade any time soon so this low number gives me years to enjoy it.

What a great way to spend a day; taking a trip to pick up your new camera and trying it out on the way home.

Enjoy the day and don't forget to share your photos and thoughts on your new camera!!! Congratulations and we will be waiting to hear all about it.

Reminds me of the day my wife and I covered about half of Vermont to pickup a rabbit hutch and a Baby Deardorf. That was a very good day. Enjoy yours !

While I am not trying to start anything, please observe all of the usual cautions and meet in a public place, request to see his receipt for the purchase of the camera, and so on. Other than these cautions, I wish you well and please enjoy your "New" camera.

The old line from poker playing was "You got to know when to hold 'em, know when to fold 'em".

Buying used is best done with the mentality of Zen. Know what you are looking for and don't be upset by the ones that got away.

Like you, I bought my D850 from someone who bought the "best" without having any idea of the investment in time and effort to learn how to use it. A few months after purchase from a USA Dealer, he got some cash back and I got a great camera. And, I did something similar with my 200-500 zoom, deal on ebay, met at a half way point with the seller to hand cash to him for the virtually NIB lens.

Well folks, if it were not for bad luck, I would have no luck! Drove 191 miles each way to buy a Nikon D850. I took my time and checked everything I could and found a deal breaking flaw. The joystick worked up, down, right but not left. The left was dead. Everything else looked perfect. This guy has had the camera for a month so I find it hard to believe he did not know of this flaw. Needless to say, to his annoyance, I walked and was somewhat pissed he did not tell me about it. Sure glad I took the trip and did not have him ship it! A sucker I am not! Will look closer to home

So my camera search continues .......

Have you considered purchasing a factory refurbished model? I purchased my factory refurbished D810 from B&H and have been very pleased. Only 176 on the shutter count.
