As you all may remember I was offered a D850 with 11K shots for $2500. Many though this was too much for a used D850 so I passed as the guy would not budge on price. Yesterday found a listing for a Nikon D850 with 926 shots in new condition. No box or manuals but everything else and 2 batteries. Wanted $2300 but got him down to $1950. Serial number is 3081152 which would indicate a US model. Just have to drive 200 miles to Grand Raipids, MI to pick it up as he will not ship.

Goes to show where there is a "will" there's a "way" and your search found a way.

ROAD TRIP! This gives you a chance to check out the camera, confirm the serial number and make sure everything works.

I'm sure you'll love the camera. Just become extremely aware of what it can do. Then, you'll work as a team.

You've made an excellent decision opting for camera #2. Even though these cameras are designed to last for thousands of images you want the option that gives you the longest time with your camera. I was thrilled to purchase a refurbished Nikon D810 with only 176 shots. I have wanted the 810 for a very long time and there are no plans to upgrade any time soon so this low number gives me years to enjoy it.

What a great way to spend a day; taking a trip to pick up your new camera and trying it out on the way home.

Enjoy the day and don't forget to share your photos and thoughts on your new camera!!! Congratulations and we will be waiting to hear all about it.

Dodie

Right. It’s not just a good price, it’s an opportunity for a hands-on inspection.

Therefore, remind your seller to charge up a coupla batteries. If the camera has been idle (only 926 clicks strongly hints at idle) then his batteries’s charges are faded to near zero.

What if you already use that type of battery ? Top up a pair to bring along. No “hands-on” benefit without power, and you are driving several hours for that benefit. Even if the seller says he will bring two fully charged batteries, Murphy’s Law always applies.

No worries travelling 400 mile round trip for a deal like that; that's the price of my D750 before tax! ('cept, there was a "little" matter of the 24-120 f4 thrown in by Nikon in the deal! : ) Enjoy your awesome "new" camera!

Less than 1000 shots taken? Deal! Big time. Best of luck.

Noting what others have said about batteries make sure the original owner charges the 2 batteries. If taking a couple of your own then make sure they will work in a D850 first. A number of the clone batteries for earlier Nikons, although theoretically should work in a D850, actually don't.

Huh. Thaz also how I wound up with the 24-120. The bundle with grip, 24-120, card, bag, and spare battery was ~$200 more than the D750 as body-only. It’s quite reasonable to figger the 24-120 cost only ~$125 :-O

|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

The D610 plus 28-300 deal was even weirder. No grip, much better bag, spare battery, card, etc etc and the bundle was all of $25 more than a D610 body-only.

Apply minimal value to just the spare battery and the great bag, perhaps only $75 combined, and Nikon paid me $50 to take the lens off their hands. There are widely varying opinions about that lens, but at a price of $50 LESS THAN zero, no one’s opinion really matters !

Those two zooms, USA brand new, cost ~$75 combined (as Nikon authorized bundled deals). A set of three basic primes cost me several hundred $$ as *used* lenses.
