Amphibious car on Saguaro Lake in Arizona.
Definitely a sight that would capture your imagination.
there are a fleet of these in Disney Springs Orlando. They take people out for rides and are reasonably popular.
You mean like enjoy the design without actually putting it on the water? Yes. Imagine what it would take to salvage that high-priced toy.
The Boathouse Restaurant has 12 of them at Disney Springs. Guests willing to pay the price can take a ride around Lake Buena Vista.
Yeah, I bet the guy wished he could fly it too?
LOL.

My Dad operated a Marine Store which sold fishing boats, speed boats and Amphicars. On Saturdays he would take one out for a drive. He put it in several lakes in the area to draw attention, advertise, this vehicle and my brother and I got to go along.
It was so much fun to pull up to the ramp, lock the doors to seal them, then drive straight into the water. Most people then were not aware of this vehicle so we got a lot of attention as we headed into the water. As far as cruising speed, the fastest it ever went was when you pulled into the water.
Thanks for bringing back the memories.

Boy, if I had a quarter for every time I have seen this?

I’m curious - what was the process for sealing the doors? BTW, these are now selling in the 65-100K$ range - do you have any left?

From what I remember the Amphicar was made in the early seventies. Wheels magazine did a feature of one (which i have a copy of somewhere). I think the car was based on a Renault
I was in Paris in 2008 and took the following photos of one on a boat. Sorry about the grainy photos.

There was a handle with a cam to pull the doors against the door seal. He left that business 50 years ago, none left.

Cool! A neighbor of ours had one in the sixties in Ottawa. He would drive it down to the Rideau river near
our place and then into the water, with a whole lot of people watching. It was unique at the time.
The Amphicar is cool, but if you've got a large family, you need to get a Duck:

I wonder if they’re still running them after the Missouri accident? Might be difficult to get insurance...
