"My Lucky Shot"
This is my lucky shot of my Grandson's baseball game. I was standing with the camera more or less focused on him and I snapped the photo when I saw something blip through the view finder. The blip was a baseball thrown by our pitcher. If you look closely, you can see the reflection of the baseball in his sunglasses. The baseball has just enough blur indicating speed.
What is even more amazing is that the baseball had just cleard Drew making it an even more incredable shot. My lucky shot hangs on my office wall.

I got 3 more lucky shots that game. His 2 home runs one being a grandslam and the 3rd one of him sliding into home making it his first grandslam of his little league baseball career.

i've probably posted this one before, but it's a perfect example of the kind of shot you're talking about... i was at a park with my telephoto lens to get some bird shots, and was walking behind a young couple. the girl had a bottle of soap and one of those little wands, and was leaving a trail of soap bubbles behind her. most of them drifted off and/or popped immediately, but this one landed on a stalk of grass and didn't burst immediately. i got the crazy idea to see if i could get a decent photo of it before it popped, so i hurried up to where it was, quickly got the composition, and got off three frames before it popped. taken from about 6 feet away with a Canon 30D and Sigma EX80-400 @ 350mm, 1/250 @ f/5.6...

It's amazing how you go that so sharp for moving so fast!

My lucky shot was taken at the Edmonds bluff above the ferry dock. The starlings were doing their dance back and forth and i pressed the shutter button as many times as I could while they were moving around, and somehow they made me a heart.

I have a few but this one was easy to find. I was in a high rise in NYC...it had just started to snow and across the way in another building I saw the man put the little boy up to the window...just look at his face.

My son was a competive swimmer for about ten years. Would also take the camera to swim meets; first film and later digital. I got lots and lots of shots of nothing but water. However, did get lucky a couple of times!

I did not see the bee in the photo until I downloaded it. The wings of bee are in motion. It flew into the photo as I shot it.

This may not be my lucky shot but it was lucky for this guy that it looked up . Here's the story of this . I was on an 950 ft containership . The pelican had taken a dive in front of the ship as we were leaving port . It was enjoying dinner and had just lifted its beak to allow dinner to to be swallowed. Then it looked up unaware of a big ship about to run right over it . I took the picture as its wings were flapping and its feet trying to run across the water to avoid being run over,

I was out shooting my second favorite subject. Testing out a friends 55-200mm Nikon non VR lens when I felt the hairs on the back of my neck stand up and swung around and caught this guy in mid flight. I dubbded it The "Bombing Run" as I felt he was lining me up to drop one on!

I love that. I used to fish when I was little and have a shot of me when I was about 4 ft. high and the fish was about 3 ft. holding it up in the driveway. Dad took it with a "Brownie". Thanks for that shot. It took me back to childhood. :-)

My wife and I started a tradition while dating some 33 years ago when workign at the local hospital in Annapolis Md. We go to a little french cafe om Mainstreet Annapolis Md for a salad and French Onion soup on the first accumulating snow fall of the season.

this was taken in 2009 just before Christmas. Our daughter was in town form S. Ca for the holiday. She was hoping for 2 - 3 inches odf snow and would up with 27+ total on this storm. Had to get downtown with our jeep.

the photo is from the intersection of Main Street and King George looking at the capitol building in Annapolis. It is hand held using a Nikon D80. Set on flash with also the available light option holding the shutter oepn for about 2 seconds based on how long I held my breath. The photo is hand held, no steadying tripod. It is not retouched in any way.

I didn't realize this would be my once in a lifetime shot until we got home and I downloaded to the computer.
