Nikon D4 200-500 5.6 vr and 80-400 4.5-5.6 vr.
auto white balance
auto iso usually around 1000
This game the lighting was quite unusual. A fire in Utah brought weird hazy skies with the sun going in and out.
Great shots
First shot of the picture is stunning. The one with the batting cage net is oddly intriguing with the net looking like strange waves and Distortions
Nice action shots--the first is the winner.

John Lacrosse is a great game to shoot. Lots of action and be careful of that little white ball. It's hard as a rock and hurts when someone gets in it's way. lol..Have a great time.

My favorite too. I never saw the shot fully until I started editing.

Thanks Tom shooting anything these days?

Hope all is good.

As always I learn from your epic expertise Jules... studying the download of the forth image it is clearly obvious that 1/2500 is NOT able to freeze the angular acceleration of this fierce pitcher's hand... while her torso is razor sharp motion blur is creeping toward the extremities of her right arm where it reaches maximum blur...
I've noticed this same issue with my failed attempts to freeze a powerful free kicks on the soccer pitch... believe it will take at least 1/6400 to 1/8000 to yield razor sharp extremities of players hands or feet when they are under maximum angular acceleration.
Oh, for those who want to say a "little' motion blur adds to the visual statement by implying movement... Show me a Sports Illustrated cover that has motion blur of a pitcher's hand.. Not happening... I've Googled Sports Illustrated Baseball Covers and they literally avoid this scenario by traditionally showing the pitcher at the zenith of their windup... Food for thought... study Sports Illustrated imagery Jules... that's where you'll find your competition.
Ok, noticed you were shooting at 310mm FL... Yep that's the sweet spot for the enchanting 200-500mm... when I used it for Soccer I actually placed white tape at 400mm to remind me to avoid the extreme end while the VR can (and does) handle 500mm well at that setting the optics start to lose that stellar acuity (at least on my copy... your copy may be different, verify k?)
Question: What is that blob floating in the air on image six? It certainly doesn't look like a softball... lol
So sad that the air quality was down in your locale... and so close to Earth Day (April 22) here's hoping folks realize that we live on a very small fragile planet. Utah seems so far away from Las Vegas... Seems what happens in Utah doesn't stay in Utah... Just saying... lol
Please keep up the good work Jules... I always benefit so much from your posts!
Good Morning Thomas: Thank you so much for your comments and expertise on the above subject. Never to old to learn from you and others enjoying our wonderful craft. I love it. On Wed. of this week I am going to try the shutter at 1/6400 because I want to stop the action. I always worry about the iso going up to much for image quality. But I will do it, as I always want to be better.
The blob as you call it lol was a plastic ball the batter were practicing their swings with.
I close with many thanks again,
Jules
