Jules if you have lots of sunshine you will be totally fine... Your D4 won't even be breathing hard at ISO 1600...
My vintage D3 does stellar up to ISO 3200 and perfectly fine even at ISO 6400.

Using the Sunny 16 Rule when shooting at f/5.6 gives you approximately ISO 1600 at 1/6400.
The math is very straightforward... If you set your aperture to f/16, whatever ISO you are using, your shutter speed will be the reciprocal value of that ISO value (ISO X = 1/X seconds shutter speed).

Thus for ISO 200 your shutter speed needs to be 1/200 (actually 1/250)
Now f/5.6 is 3 stops faster than f/16... so 1/250 -> 1/500 -> 1/1000 -> 1/2000
Shoot at ISO 1600 and Bob's your uncle! By using the Sunny 16 Rule you've 1/8000!
However from experience here I tend to bump it down a half stop to 1/6400...
Why? Blown Highlights are a bear to fix in post... lol

Your D4 can likely yield excellent results easily at ISO 3200... My vintage D3 certainly can.
While Sunny 16 Rule can be (and often is) dismissed as one of the old relics of the film era.
However it is still a valid and useful rule nonetheless. That is until you're dealing with a partially cloudy day...
Then as the sun goes behind each cloud you actually could lose like 3 stops...
That's enough for you to abandon it and cherish your built in Auto Exposure... lol

Might shoot in RAW and .jpg while you're playing with exposure/ISO balance.
That way you will have nearly three stops of recovery over/under if things go south.

Can't wait to see your results from this coming Wednesday!

Jules if you have lots of sunshine you will be tot... (show quote)

Thanks for the info Thomas. I am going to try some different settings today. However here in the valley it's cloudy, and might rain a bit. We shall see. I may not use the 200-500 and go with the 70-200 2.8 and 80-400 4.5-5.6 for the extra stop and focal length. Stay tune..

auto white balance
auto iso usually around 1000

This game the lighting was quite unusual. A fire in Utah brought weird hazy skies with the sun going in and out.

You've got some fantastic captures of the feelings and effort during a typical game
