I don't recall spending a lot, but that was some years ago. Funny story - when Mom was still alive, I bought her an early similar size digital frame and loaded it with photos of all her Grandchildren. Came on a visit to discover she had carefully trimmed a photo and fitted it in front of the screen, the constant changes were not to her taste!

Funny, perhaps understandable, but still funny.

I still have a small HP Frame but really never use it. I use a 50" Samsung TV and access all my pictures I have on Google Photos. I can do that via wifi or a Thumb drive.

Thanks, I don't care for Google or keeping photos online. In any case, no space for that where the frame is kept.

I just use an old tablet. Loaded some photos into a folder and used it for a screen saver. Propped it up on a shelf and let it screensave away.

Got the tablet for a project. When the project was done I didn't use the tablet (not my thing). So I found an alternative use for it.

Thanks, a good idea I hadn't considered!

I find these gadgets last only a few years also.

I use DisplayFusion which lets you display pics on your pc screen as screen saver. Very configurable.

As I have two screens, it allows for 2 independent screen saver shows to run simultaneously.

Obviously your display has to be where the pc screens are located and thus not adjustable re: location and won’t work for many folks.

I have the same one that you had.
I bought Pix-Star for my children and loaded a card with pictures. They seem happy and you can either email or just use memory card.
Pix-Star 10 Inch Wi-Fi Cloud Digital Picture Frame with IPS high resolution display, Email, iPhone iOS and Android app, DLNA and Motion Sensor (Black) Purchased through Amazon

Funny. My mother could watch for a long time, I don't think she was fully aware they repeated after awhile.

NixPlay. The frame has lasted more than 5 years. The remotes always quit after a few months so I've given up on their remotes.

For something truly high-end, look at Meural Digital Canvas, now owned by NetGear. Expensive, but optically/artistically superb.

How about a good used laptop running a slideshow, etc.. Seems cheaper than some of the frames and possibly a better picture with more control. Or send the laptop show to a smart TV. I'm just guessing. I have been thinking of sending my iMac to my 75" Samsung with the music controlled screensaver.

Using an old computer and monitor can be cost effective and you can get a fairly large screen, but consider the power requirements also.

I’ve thought about an economy laptop etc instead ... some are near in price and can do a bit more ... (I’m just sayin’)

My NIX X 15 D croaked, long past guarantee, having given great service. It was a very simple, not connected model that we greatly enjoyed. Apparently has been replaced by more sophisticated WiFi / Cloud connected models that you can run with Alexa or your cell phone - not interested. What I want is a simple replacement that I can load with an SDHC or Flash drive. Any suggestions?

Since my Nix Play which I love is not available anymore,I suggest you check the Net for reviews. I looked and saw many great reviews of new digital frames by professional reviewers who, unlike owners like me, will give you unbiased ratings of new hardware. Happy hunting...

Cheers!

I run photo slide shows as screen savers on my computer. The casualty is in the Kitchen / Breakfast area on a built in desk / counter that gets lots of use. Small & automatic are the keys. Thanks for your input!

Yeah, that happens, tragically. I think it is worse when you keep your smarts and every thinglse goes in the crapper.
