Thanks for sharing this story of an amazing woman. And thanks to you for being a nurse in what has always been a critically needed profession.

I am an RN too. She sounds like a fascinating lady. I looked to see if there is a book about her. It looks like there was one, but it is out of print.

Check your local Library. They keep out of print books and may have it.

Thanks for bringing this to our attention Samantha90. Another fine example of why this is considered The Greatest Generation.

I wonder if the kids today would measure up to those who fought in WWII and those who risked their lives supporting them.

Well, we've had troops in Afghanistan for twenty years, so they're doing their part. Everyone is different.

watch your tunnels to towers commercial on tv.. with the kind of wounds they suffer today, the old soldiers would have never made it to the shore for evac. do not ever under estimate our young people. today we have women in front line combat.one women was an air force sniper. one of our women was a worthog pilot now in congress we have women flying F22 raptors. there is nothing wrong with a lot of our kids today GOD BLESS THEM ALL!! maybe you could send this to lowkick pfc schmidt USArmy 1962-1964

Thanks for posting. Look how young they look - just kids. She was only 22-23 years when this photo was taken. Remarkable work for anyone, let alone such a young woman. I wonder if the kids today would measure up to those who fought in WWII and those who risked their lives supporting them.

You mean today's kids who wouldn't even sacrifice their Florida spring vacation to help stop a pandemic that killed over half a million Americans and who decided it was giving up too much to wear a mask while packing themselves together in bars and on the streets?

I agree. She was truly an amazing heroine. Shame she died at 65.

She likely packed more LIFE into those 65 years than most!

Wow! Thank you, Samantha. I love it. I met a few of her sisters in 1966 and I love them all.

Thanks for posting this. In these days you often wonder why can't we hear more about people, like this brave RN.
We seem to hear more of such bad / sad things.

Those in service to our country definitely measure up. I'm not sure about the run of the mill variety.

There are horrors in all wars. Fortunately advances in medicine helped save ever so many lives. I can't imagine what it must have been like as a medic on a civil war battle field where there were tens of thousands of casualities and wounded.

Some of the bomber pilots flying B-17s over Germany were 19. Today's kids would never make it.
