I am with Carol on these Mike, like your last two shots the best but also enjoyed #3 with the contrasting and quite sharp center of the flower.

Thanks for sharing these photos, Mike. I love the results with the Zeiss, it creates a very artistic image. The composition of #1, combined with the Zeiss shallow depth of field, created a gallery worthy work, beautiful.

Thanks for your thoughtful and supportive comment, Joe. I am trying to develop an approach to these type of shots.

Very nice, Mike. The last two are my favorites. The DOF is a little shallow in some for my personal taste. You have some very nice perspectives and compositions in these.

I appreciate your comments, Carol. I think #9 is too shallow, but I wanted the views of others.

Thanks, Joe, as I told Carol, I think #9 is too shallow for my taste, but I am interested in views from others. #3 was a challenge again because of balancing the body and center.

Yesterday I took some blue hour closeups experimenting with various depths of field. My Zeiss 85mm can really create a shallow depth of field. This morning I went out the door with the longs lens to get more YHBB shots. The gale that met me convinced me to try another day, so I took a golden hour shot of one of our blooming trees.

In the blue hour shots (#1 - 6) I would appreciate your comments/reactions to these shots.

Brilliant colours. I find red quite difficult to get right.

Gorgeous colors and a good time with the camera. I observe in #1 and #4 the leaves of the plant are in clear focus, but the flowers are not. If that was intended, then OK. But I think with the shallow depth of field you can obtain, the visual interest would be enhanced with the flowers in clear focus and the leaves playing a secondary role... thanks for sharing, Mike!
