Hey, how about you take a picture and the camera spits out a print, oh wait that might have been done before.

Instant gratification!
Somewhat...

Hmmmm. The “rise of the machines”?

Tell your camera to “go out to [GPS Coordinates] and take [n] pictures”. Or run your camera from home with your AI headset. Sit back and have the AI editor crop, sharpen, adjust color and ZAP! All done.

Who needs an actual artist?

Yup, AI will know what looks best!
Might not be what I want, but it will look the best.

I am a retired IT Manager who entered the field in "the old days when we had to write code to get things done" Nowadays complex stuff happens at the mouse click. Progress Progress it's all good. Instead of smelly chemicals, we use computer mice to do the "heavy lifting". Progress is good!!!

I don't use click-'n-builds, I still hand code. Just like the old days.

Amazing how much shorter (less verbose) hand coded web pages are compared to click-'n-build pages.
MS Word created HTML was really nasty, I tried it once.

The "obsession" reference isn't for using filters........

Well I just don’t know what to tell you. The very first thing on the list submitted is filter use. The title contains the word obsession.

Always a pleasure conversing with you.

Yessir I get/got that. Did I need to list the entire list? You said filters. I provided filters. You said obsessed. I provided the word in the title.

Forgive my obvious ignorance of WTF you are talking about or your seeming need to put me down but I don’t see the need to carry on with some type of argument with a child.

Buh Bye now.

Things come and go, some linger for a long time or return to haunt us and others are just a blink.

We have had:
Filter use as protection (recurring)
Bokeh
HDR
Stacking
Stitching
Noise (recurring)
File format choice (recurring)
Sky replacement
....

What will be the next one?

Your reply:

I think your entire post is wrong from the word obsession. I use filters on my lenses to protect the glass. I am in no way obsessed and feel I MUST use a filter. I think it is a good idea. Rather than clean the camera glass numerous times I can clean the glass of the cheaper filter. For my money pictures are just as clear and sharp taken through a filter as when no filter is used.

Everything else you mention is simply a choice all of us make or not. And if we do make a choice either way many of us choose differently the next day for a different photograph. I have never met even one person who is obsessed with anything on your list. We like those things or we do not. No big deal either way.

Dennis

I inferred your reply was only regarding filters.
The "obsession(s)" referred to in the original post was a list, not one obsession in particular.

That is one way to look at it for sure. My preference is to take photos and edit as little as possible. Others choose different. No matter how I feel or you feel about al it is here and is not going away. The issue I have is for the competition and professional areas. Will they be forced to use it by default to remain competitive

Always saw the camera as an “input accessory” of the darkroom. Have no personal concept of sooc at all. That includes chromes. I developed digital tricks before digital was born. Digital hadda catch up with me. But acoarst pretty soon digital just blew right on past me, and so I hadda go madly chasing after it :-0

You left out:

What lens should I take on my trip to ___________?
What camera should I buy?
Where can I get support for my 20 yr old software to get it to run on my brand new computer?
Mirrorless vs DSLR?
Backup drives?
TVs for photo editing
Color profiling - aka my prints are too dark?
Using teleconverters on non-tele lenses?

And so on . . .

Using a camera to actually take pictures . . .

I'm not sure I'd call it an obsession, but artificial intelligence is sure changing what we used to call photography.

Itself, no, but having to USE it would be.

Let me suggest to describe a photo that had AI as the decision maker; we then should call it Artificial Photography by an Artificial Photographer. Or better yet: Fake Pictures. We can send a drone up, go to sleep and it will come back with a bunch of pictures; does not sound too interesting. But who knows, maybe it will be for someone.

Well, if AI made all the work/edits, it would not be the work of the individual.
All he did was say "GO".

In all your visions you (and all other folks) miss three things:
- Murphy laws, what can go wrong...
- Monkey wrench from the 'user'
- Revolt of the AIs worldwide.....
