I view phones as an adjunct to the more capable cameras we love. not a substitute, but very often its the one I have with me, since its in pocket constantly. But I do think it calls into question the utility of so-called transition cameras like my Sony RX 100, which I think I will sell soon!

Here is a shot I took with an iPhone 8 max a couple of years ago in the French Pyrenees. It’s the only camera I had with me since my Nikon had been stolen in a burglary a few weeks before I left.

I have the Pro 12 and my son has the Pro 12 Max. Both are excellent. The Max supposedly has slightly improved ability in low light, but I did not want the additional phone size.

There are apps to give you full control over the phone.

I recently read an article in Outdoor Photographer magazine which pretty much raved about the new iPhone 12pro and iPhone 12ProRAW camera capabilities.
Just wondering if any of you fellow Ugly Hedgehoggers have any experience with this new and fairly expensive iPhone? I am still using my OLD iPhone 5 which is getting ready to go into retirement and am wandering if its worth while getting the 12pro and is it any better than an iPhone 11 Pro? Camera wise, I am shooting with a well used Nikon D7100 with mostly a Tamron 18-400 mm lens. I'm fairly happy with the results but am also impressed with the pictures my wife get with her iPhone 11, which she just pulls out of her pocket and snaps, rather than me lugging a big lens on a big camera, etc. So, should I get (a) better lens or lenses for the money Apple charges for the phone, or should I keep the camera and lens I have and just add a new phone to my repertoire? I know, its ultimately my choice, but I was just wandering what your thoughts on the iPhone 12PRO or PRORAW are.

I have a friend who takes beautiful shots with his iPhone 11 and now 12pro max. He is a true artist with whatever equipment he has, and he does have great camera equipment too.

I have the 12 Pro but haven’t shot anything other than flowers with it.

It won't give you a hernia.

You can operate the IPhone in complete manual mode. I do that quite often to keep it from raising ISO beyond what I want.

That's why 99% of the time I leave the house, I have a quality "real" camera with me. My cell phone occasionally gets used to take notes.

This is a personal opinion, but my main reason for having a cell phone is for communication. The fact that it has a camera in it is an added nicety when I do not have one of my cameras with me. I cannot, nor will not, try to justify spending as much, or more, for a phone as I have for a DSLR. Having started my photography avocation with a movie camera and then to a film SLR, I've grown accustomed to using a camera for photos. Just my preference.

This is a photo from a Iphone 12 Pro--get rid of your camera! lol

A nice snap shot for sure and maybe great for the internet , but cannot compare to even the bridge cameras today . A waste of money if for a camera verses a real camera . I imported your image to photoshop and zoomed in to see detail and it falls apart .. No way this image can even print 24 x 36 or 16 x 24 I am not knocking your ability to capture a great image just your choice of "camera" ...As for a camera if making larger prints for the wall it lacks that ability ...as far as I can tell even My first digital camera a D300 at 12.3 megapixel it does a way better job up to 24 x 36 . Perhaps a tiff or raw file from a state of the art Iphone would do better . working at a print Gallery for 6 years we had to inform disillusioned customers that we could not print their sometimes gorgeous images as big as what we displayed on our walls from large Canon,Nikon ,and Sony high Megapixel cameras ...In the future Maybe , I haven't tried on any of the new generation of phones in 3 years ..this download just can't be upsized very far ..at least as a jpeg posted here . Buy a phone for a phone , and some nice snapshots but cary a camera for anything to put on a wall...Just My humble opinion.

The iPhone 12 Pro Max has a 12mp sensor. Predicting how large a print a jpeg posted on the internet could make tells me nothing.

This was a 12 pro max and the 16x20 acrylic is beautiful. You would be suprised. Have to see it to believe it.

I believe it because I don't have an axe to grind by insisting on the need to shlep a large, heavy camera and lens in order to make a good photograph. Yes, I used to carry a Nikon D800 with a 50-150 f/2.8 lens.
