It's been awhile (2014) since someone posted questions about this and am looking for a well padded & solid attaching shoulder sling for my D850 & 500 pf5.6 & TC1.4 combo.

Anyone w/recent (last couple years) experience that has some recommendations and tips using them are greatly appreciated. This will primarily be used on several mile hikes for wildlife photography.

Thanks!

I have an OpTech on my Canon and I don’t like it. I purchased a Peak with my Nikon Z6ii and so far I am very happy with it.

I use Black Rapid slings exclusively. I have left, right and double. And very small. I have 25mm Arca Clamps on the end, and use them to clamp onto the Arca base plates on the cameras or tripod collars on the lenses.

For climbing, I use a Cotton Carrier vest.

For miles of hiking, I put the camera in a backpack.

Thanks Badphoto- appreciate the feedback and will check them out, including the vest. Have a nice well padded Lowepro backpack I use also. 😀

I use an OP/TECH Utility Strap Sling with a two point connection (two 3/8" straps that slide on the 3/4" sling strap) to the camera body; EXCEPT when I am using a large heavy telephoto lens with a mounting collar, then I use a Black Rapid sling strap with a 1" wide Kirk clamp to an Arca Swiss plate on the foot of the lens mounting collar so that the lens can be quickly mounted on a tripod; additionally I use an OP/TECH Reporter/Backpack sliding connector to tether the foot of the large telephoto lens mounting collar to the Black Rapid strap as a backup connection.

Thanks JayRay- appreciate the detailed feedback. Very helpful as even though the 500 has a tripod collar it's not too heavy but good to know for connecting purposes. The body probably weighs more than the lens with the batt grip attached. Will check it out!

I recently bought the Black Rapid two-camera setup, which can be separated and used as single straps also. I put RRS L-plates on all my camera bodies and RRS replacement feet on my long lenses, and they now come with sockets for the QD quick-release system. So far, I am *really* pleased with this setup.

Thanks Russ- that's great info also as I'm considering the two camera option but nice to know it's configurable for one as well. Very helpful- thank you also!

And you'll get the usual list of high priced, "expensive camera" inside bags, I'm sure.

I've been using these for the past 10 years. https://condoroutdoor.com/all-products/bags-and-packs/136-tactical-response-bag.html

I can't seem to carry anything comfortably from my shoulders for long anymore so I have taken the belt clip from my power drill and put it on the tripod socket of my camera. The clip is similar to the one on a tape measure but deeper and more substantial. The camera now hangs at my side wild west style handy for a "quick draw". It is surprisingly secure there although for anything that might involve a scramble I will put on a strap that hangs loosely over my shoulder.
Carried this way the camera is comfortable, can be moved side to side when I start feeling the weight and can be covered by my coat when it rains.
You do need a good substantial belt for this though.
Oh, and it cost me nothing.

In this context, what does "diverse" mean?

This is also what I now use with a 300/2.8 and sometimes a 2X converter. I find it works great.
