Most photos were at concerts, nothing really up close and personal except Huey Lewis. Paul Simon, Dylan w/Tom Petty, Santana, Ottmar Liebert, Jackson Brown, but I did catch Jonathon Winters at a local Santa Barbara restaurant. Other characters around here I have not had my camera with me!

Yes, I was very fortunate and started my first staff news photographer job at 20 working my way through 3 years of college over four years. I spent 10 years as newspaper and wire service staffers then went freelance in 1970. I consider myself retired now and will be 82 in four more days.
Happy Birthday Seabastes! Wishing you more years of happy reflections on past achievements. Jim
That is a fine photo of California's former Governor.
Payne Stewart and Bill Murray both in 92 at Peeble beach golf tournament
Pete Rose, was hired to shadow him and photograph him for 2 days. He’s actually a very nice and interesting guy. The twist was he was The Hit King, I was the Strike-Out King. If he ever makes Hall of Fame I have several items autographed by him.

Who is the most famous person you have photographed?
Actress Abby Dalton about a hundred years ago during my long hair, bearded, flowered VW bus days. Most recently spending some time with Lawrence Taylor.
Would you give me your lens and camera settings for that moon shot. All I ever get is a bright white dot.
Most of my photos of famous people were up close and personal, though the one of Pope Paul was in a crowd. I did get up close to the Pope once but didn't photograph him then. Just after I took JFK's photo, Hubert Humphrey introduced me to him and I shook his hand. I was surprised at how soft it was (he had to take good care of it, I suppose, because he shook hands with so many people). My photo of the Apollo 13 astronauts was just after they had suited up and were about to get into the vehicle that would take them to the launch site. I also covered a night parade in East Berlin that included Brezhnev and Ulbricht. Not sure if I got photos of them. Haven't checked. Been to lots of concerts featuring famous people but never photographed at them. Biggest stars were probably Leonard Cohen and Marcel Marceau.
Emmylou Harris with the Hot Band at an outdoor venue. What fun--she was drinking tequila from a bottle that day. Wonderful day. That was years ago.

So you knew David Kennerly!
I've been to a few of his talks.
Great stories!!
(I'm more impressed with him than the other Famous People)
I've photographed Loretta Lynn (nice lady!) in Conway Twitty's house, Barry Switzer, Paul Ryan, Michelle Obama, Gary Sinise, several governors, several Miss America winners including Vanessa Williams ....all 1 on 1. Most from working for a daily newspaper.
