I just noticed some of the steps that Topaz Sharpen goes through:
Listed in no particular order: INVOKING CONVOLUTIONAL CORTEX / REARRANGING NEURAL NODES / FIRING ALL NEURAL SYNAPSES / INVOKING NEURAL SHIFT INVARIANCE / VERIFYING NEURAL SHIFT INVARIANCE / GROUPING NEOCORTICAL NODES . The program works very well and I think some engineers are chuckling. No wonder you need a "Kick-ass" computer for Same-Day Service on large batches of photos!
Personally, I prefer a bit more control over my processes than letting some AI take over.

You can manually set many of the controls. What he is talking about is topaz shows all the steps it is doing during a rendering.

This program doesn't know any more or less about what you want than any other editing program; it just does a very good job of what you expect it to do. Personally, I think it's possible that the engineers are just having some fun with us.

Absolutely not. AI refers to the processing algorithms used achieve the results that you can control. All those fancy step names are just Topaz marketing, but the program itself achieves top quality sharpening, head and shoulders above anything else on the market.

My kick ass computer is a cheap Lenovo Ideapad 330s and it does just fine in Topaz, no kick ass computer needed for me thank you.

Billnikon's 330 may do fine, but his comment stimulated my comments below:
I am amazed that those who pay big money for glass, and DSLR, and expensive software [humph, rental !], run old technology computers. Building a "kick-ass" computer will cost about $1000, using last year's technology. Do a Google on DIY PC construction and you will see it is easy. Years ago, it was a task, now, things only fit one way.
[mine is AMD 3600 CPU, M-2 MOBO attached C-drive, and 32 gigs of fast memory]
I was amazed when I retired my 5-year-old build and went with 2019 components... FAST... really fast.
