Wonderful story, thanks for sharing.

Your so very welcome! I was looking at the photo the other night, and the thought of posting it was a good idea.

There are many stories behind that photo. She also "LOANED ME" the money ($500) to buy my first car. Of course

that is another story, but telling all the stories wasn't the point.

The past, who you knew, what you learned, how you used your experiences, and the memories..."That Is What

Really Counts"!!! That's just my opinion.

Thanks again for the nice comments!

Thanks,
Boone.

Its wonderful when a person has such warm and clear memories of their grandparents. There were so many grandchildren, on both sides, in my family that my grandparents hardly knew who we all were!

I posted the scan of the front and the back of the photo. Just FYI!

This photo was, and still is one that will always bring back "Wonderful Memories" in my life.

This was taken by me in Dec. of 1966. I was 13 yrs. old then, and my "Great Grandmother Mae McGregor" was

96 yrs. old at time. She lived her last years with my family. She passed away my Senior year in HS. She was 99

yrs. old at the time. And she passed away in excellent health. She made the family dinner that night (She loved

to do this) and I went to watch a HS basketball game. My mother told me when I got home...that she just sat

down in her favorite chair, began to read her stories, (She Loved Romance Stories) closed her beautiful eyes,...

and went in complete peace.

She had lived on her farm of 215 acres before she came to live with us when she was 92. At that time she lived

alone, and still had...84 chickens, 4 cows, one horse, (Old)... 6 pigs...and a dog.

When I was a young boy, mother would take me to her farm where I would gladly spend a week at a time.

I was 10 yrs. old then.

I would stay there with "My Dog...and my 22 cal. Rifle". (Then, 22 shells were $.25 cents for 50 rounds)

I would spend each day helping her with the milking of the cows and feeding the other animals.

When my farm chores were done, I would spend the rest of my time in the woods with my 22 Riffle and my dog.

I loved the woods, and all the wonders that it held. I learned a lot at that old farm!

I had to be in the farm house, or be "Home" before dark. Grandma always called me "Daniel Boone", because I

loved the woods so much. I loved it when she called me that, because the "Daniel Boone Show" was big back

then.

When it came to be Sunday, and a neighbor would stop to pick us up for Church, Grandma would "HOLLER AT

ME"...and Yell..."Boone" (People still call me that today)...."It's TIME FOR CHURCH" !!!

(She tagged me with "Boone"...and it stuck)

If she were alive today, she would be 151 yrs. old.

As you can see by her face in the photo..."She wasn't a big fan of my camera".

The end of this short story is:

I still have this photo laying on top of my computer, and look at it a few times a week.

I will always miss her... but the memories, and the values I have of those days...will live in me forever.

I hope my children,... will have something like this to remember,...when they get to my age!!!

So...now you know where I got the name..."BOONE"...and who "Gave it to me".

(I'm just sure you were dying to know. LOL )

Thanks for reading about "MY Most Loved Photo"!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks,
Boone.

This is the beauty of historic family photos. We dont care if they are blurred or faded we just love the look at people we love. For years I have a photo of my mother in metal locket ID during the war. When WWII started she went to work in a war factory that making gun sites in Brooklyn at a company called Ermold. Her spririt
and patriotism is in this headshot of her. I keep this locket with this beautiful mother hanging on my dresser or in the draw to see her everyday. Today we all are making more and more images but less prints.
Thanks for sharing.Be safe.

Beautiful family story and a most important photo, Boone. Thanks for sharing. While we strive to take great photos of landscapes, wildlife, etc. with expensive gear, it turns out that as time goes by it's those simple little candid photos, taken with whatever camera, of family and friends that mean the most.

Beautifully said. Sounds like a carbon copy of my grandmother. She lived to the age of 99yrs. and 9 months. Never sick a day in her entire life. She always talked about folks that said they were suffering from a headache. Grandmother said she had no idea as to what that was since she had never had one.

Thanks for sharing Boone, I just scanned a pic of my paternal grandparents that I hope to print. I had to clean it up and save it because it was such a great shot, both of them smiling together. We have to be reminded what a powerful tool photography is as far as showing us how our lives have been impacted by our loved ones!

This story tell a lot, Boone, you were raised up by the best, a family with feeling and respect. Your grandma sounded like one of the anchors of the family. What a way to be brought up, living with nature (the woods), a lot better than city streets. I would bet you could fill a book, with fond memories of those days. I wish you many more
hours with revisiting your past.

You've shared a wonderful story about you great grandmother and your growing up years. I hold that those of us born between the end of WWII and the early 1960's probably grew up in the golden years of childhood. I too spent many years in the woods near Spokane. Came home for lunch and in time to get ready for baseball games.
It was wonderful.

What a wonderful comment!!!

Yes I was raised with respect. A term I am very proud of, and try to practice each day. However, "Respect" was more of

a "Learned Ideal" then it was a "Taught Ideal". I guess what I mean is that just by "Seeing and Watching" how

the "Adults Acted To Others" was "How I Formed Many Values". I just wish that "All Adults Of Today" would

pause for a moment, and realize that "Their Children Are Watching"....and realize that "They Will Learn From

What They See"!!!

Yes the woods taught me many lessons. There was so much knowledge in the woods, and I like to think

that I learned a LITTLE of what I was exposed to!

I was so lucky in so many ways. I was really fortunate in many many ways!!!

Thanks again for the look and the kind words.

Thanks,
Boone.
