You've shared a wonderful story about you great grandmother and your growing up years. I hold that those of us born between the end of WWII and the early 1960's probably grew up in the golden years of childhood. I too spent many years in the woods near Spokane. Came home for lunch and in time to get ready for baseball games.
It was wonderful.

I have never heard of a term like: "The Golden Years Of Childhood", but I love it!!! Because that term sums the

time period up better then I ever heard it summed up before. "VERY WELL SAID INDEED"!!!

Thanks for the kind words, and you are right. I am glad that I grew up in a time where I could play baseball, football, hunt, go to the woods, and...."UNDERSTAND THE WORDS TO SONGS"!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thank you for the words of kindness, much appreciated!

Thanks,
Boone.

You grew up at a time that was fast changing. Be glad (as you obviously are) you were raised by such a great family at that time. You tell your story in a heart-warming way, a way that brings back similar memories by many of us. It's always good to know that people appreciate their up-bringing and the family that guided them. Thank you for sharing your story.

When I was a very young lad, I would sit in my Grandmother's lap in her rocking chair, and she would sing to me. Days gone by and no picture except in my mind. My Father and Grandfather had small farms next to each other. As an older boy I was out in the woods or orchards with a .22, or BB gun, and a pocket full of firecrackers. Great memories. Wish I had pictures. My Grandmother had a copse of trees that she packed full of daffodils, in the spring, walking to school, the slope from the trees down to the road was awash with wild violets. Great memory, but no picture. Had an old box camera, but didn't know of what to take pictures. Everything at the time seemed commonplace. I.E. the old barn wall, the old REO Speedwagon truck, the steam engines, round house, and shed. Things I would now love to have. Respectfully, Robert F. (bob4fred@msn.com)

I am glad that so many have read this post, and that "ALL" understood how I meant it. If it were not for the

fact that I did (And still do) have a good family, I don't what wood happened to me. But..."When I look at my

children (2 boys: one a CPA, one a Pittsburgh Police Officer, 1girl: A secondary School Teacher) and my grand kids,

I see my Mom and Dad, as well as many others in them.

I was indeed a lucky person, and I am thankful for that each day!!!

I thank you for your taking the time to look & read. Good of you!

Thanks,
Boone.

How true that is. I am glad you have good memories. I take a lot of photos of the "Kids" and their kids. Some

times they look at me like I have two heads! But I have many of those photos printed (Even if they never see

them) and some time, after I am gone, they will have them to see.

Thanks for the look and the read.

Thanks,
Boone.

I posted the scan of the front and the back of the photo. Just FYI!

This photo was, and still is one that will always bring back "Wonderful Memories" in my life.

This was taken by me in Dec. of 1966. I was 13 yrs. old then, and my "Great Grandmother Mae McGregor" was

96 yrs. old at time. She lived her last years with my family. She passed away my Senior year in HS. She was 99

yrs. old at the time. And she passed away in excellent health. She made the family dinner that night (She loved

to do this) and I went to watch a HS basketball game. My mother told me when I got home...that she just sat

down in her favorite chair, began to read her stories, (She Loved Romance Stories) closed her beautiful eyes,...

and went in complete peace.

She had lived on her farm of 215 acres before she came to live with us when she was 92. At that time she lived

alone, and still had...84 chickens, 4 cows, one horse, (Old)... 6 pigs...and a dog.

When I was a young boy, mother would take me to her farm where I would gladly spend a week at a time.

I was 10 yrs. old then.

I would stay there with "My Dog...and my 22 cal. Rifle". (Then, 22 shells were $.25 cents for 50 rounds)

I would spend each day helping her with the milking of the cows and feeding the other animals.

When my farm chores were done, I would spend the rest of my time in the woods with my 22 Riffle and my dog.

I loved the woods, and all the wonders that it held. I learned a lot at that old farm!

I had to be in the farm house, or be "Home" before dark. Grandma always called me "Daniel Boone", because I

loved the woods so much. I loved it when she called me that, because the "Daniel Boone Show" was big back

then.

When it came to be Sunday, and a neighbor would stop to pick us up for Church, Grandma would "HOLLER AT

ME"...and Yell..."Boone" (People still call me that today)...."It's TIME FOR CHURCH" !!!

(She tagged me with "Boone"...and it stuck)

If she were alive today, she would be 151 yrs. old.

As you can see by her face in the photo..."She wasn't a big fan of my camera".

The end of this short story is:

I still have this photo laying on top of my computer, and look at it a few times a week.

I will always miss her... but the memories, and the values I have of those days...will live in me forever.

I hope my children,... will have something like this to remember,...when they get to my age!!!

So...now you know where I got the name..."BOONE"...and who "Gave it to me".

(I'm just sure you were dying to know. LOL )

Thanks for reading about "MY Most Loved Photo"!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks,
Boone.

That’s a great true heartfelt story. I’ll be 67 in a few more days and I also think back on my life and relive the memories with my family when times were simple! Raised in the country, I couldn’t wait to get home from school and grab my.22 rifle and a box of shells and head to the woods and fields!! Mom would tell me - Son, don’t forget Supper! I’d come in and she’d have a big kettle of Soup beans, an iron skillet of fried potatoes fixed in bacon grease and a big iron skillet of cornbread baked in the oven!! I had good loving parents and was the only child! Dad taught me how to hunt and fish as a child before I was 12 years old! Those memories live on! Raised in an old cinder block house, hardwood floors, no air conditioning and screen doors and an old landline phone!! Sure Antique compared to now days of all the modern technology - BUT we were Happy!! Thanks for taking us back in your world to reminisce!! God Bless you dear friend!!!

You might consider posting in the post processing forum and ask for help to spiff it up. You might be pleasantly surprised.

I could do that. And did it once myself, but it wasn't the original. Thanks for the thought!

Thanks,
Boone.

How true it is. Times have changed...as well as some peoples values. Glad you and I had this upbringing, and we wouldn't change that for anything.

Thanks my friend!

Thanks,

Thank you for sharing your beloved grandmother with us. I loved hearing your history with her (and tribute!)... and the reason for your handle. <3

Thanks so much for the read. I just had a moment, and I thought others (And there were) might have some

fond memories like me. Memories are something you can't create in seconds, but a "Second with an old Photo"

can bring back hours of old Memories!

Thanks again!

Thanks,
