I'm sure a lot ot trolls in this forum will play lip service to you. Most of it will be BS because experience is (unfortunately) a hard master. Yes, you can look at a lot of stuff online taken with bazillion dollar cameras and assistants, but it won't be you. Sit down, make a list of what you think will be memorable, important to the participants and go for it. I have been shooting weddings for 50 years and NEVER had one go as planned. Just be flexible and remember as a famous golfer said, "it ain't the arrows, it's the Indians".

Something else to do ... let them know you haven't done this before and cannot guarantee the results. Also, do some practice shooting of them in poses that could be similar to those you will be taking. You and they can both review them to get an idea of what you will be getting. If you are not happy with the practice shots, keep trying. If they are never happy with them advise them to find a professional wedding photographer. You should be able to find some that are at least decently good at it, hungry and not too expensive. You could also do the hire as a wedding present.

I’m sure you mean well but it doesn’t appear that you actually read the original post.

Your parents should hire a professional. Wedding photography takes experience. You could still shoot candids therby adding anything to the pros images.
I was waiting for this answer. I agree. I’ve shot events for years and usually refer weddings to others. There are no do-overs. As someone suggested, take your own candid shots.
Treat it like a family outing.

Look at the info online about the camera model. It is a basic point-and-shoot that only shoots jpg.
With due respect I have owned numerous digital cameras, Nikon, Leica, Canon and have ONLY shot jpeg so far. Should I be noticing problems? So far I have never had any. I am 75 and started photography over 60 years ago. With tongue firmly in cheek I sure hope I don’t have any problems shooting jpeg.
🤓👍👍

I’d say you’re doing just fine, Dennis. I think a lot of people haven’t read the original post and are using it as a place do advertise their knowledge. That’s just my opinion, of course, and I’m only 73🥴
Cassidy's parents are adults supporting their daughter's desire to be more involved in the event. I think it is great!
Given the limited capabilities of the equipment, Cassidy may want to talk to her parents about being selective regarding their must have shots. Such a discussion would give Cassidy more focus (and maybe prompt the rents to upgrade her equipment.)
