Yes they are, please go back to page one and look at my post of a Roseate Spoonbill. I could post more, but what point would that make, the Nikon 500mm 5.6 PF lens delivers, period, end of story.
As Bill stated-the 500pF delivers!
Hi, Yes. I have had this lens for a few months now and its fantastic. Much lighter than the 200-500mm, faster, and overall great to use. You have to remember its a prime lens and not a zoom. The only real downside is the cost $3,500+.

I have the 200-500 f5.6 too and I am NOT happy with the results.......my wife says I am "too hard" on my self
when it come to "sharp focus.....this is whay I am thinking about the 500....
Do you have any photos you can share from your 200-500.....I would like to compare them to mine......
If so please send to

Thanks
I will return some of mine too
I borrowed it twice from Nikon NPS and similarly was not impressed. I have not used the 500 F5.6 but have a friend that owns one and I do find his images to be quite good on a D810.
I have been watching this go back and forth. Selecting a camera and gear is a very personal issue. The level of skill involved is critical to the outcome my advise is to rent the lens and compare the results with your 200-500 and then you can make a very good decision. Remember it is your money and what ever decision you make you have to live with. As I said before rent the lens compare the results. That is what I do

Thanx! Displays the quality of images the 500pF can produce!
This is a photo of a king fisher that I took with my Nikon 200-500mm zoom
Sorry for delayed response to your posting; saw it, and wanted to respond, but just haven't had time to get around to it.
I have both the 300pf and the 500pf, and love them both. Both are fast, sharp, and light.
Before getting the 500, I mostly used the 300 with a 1.4x converter. Performance losses due to using the teleconverter were slight, in my opinion. This combination might be an option worth considering if you want to save money: you get an effective 420, f5.6, not much off the specs for the 500. I mostly shoot birds, and was very happy with the results.
The 300 works great for close focus, like a telephoto macro.
The 500 is snappy fast, and works pretty well with a 1.4x converter as 700, f8. I compared handheld daylight shots of the moon, with the 1.4x, and without but then cropped to the same size. The 1.4x gave the better results, suggesting to me that if the conditions are right, the 500 + 1.4x is a viable combination.
I've attached a photo of a Great Blue Heron, taken with the 500 + 1.4x. Have a look at the original ... I think the details are pretty good.
