I've had this lens since April 2019 and love it! I rarely use anything else, except for a Nikon 28-300 f3.5-5.6 or 300mm f/4E prime when the subject warrants. I also had the 150-500 Sigma and the Nikon 200-500. I sold the Sigma - never sorry, but I wish I had kept the 200-500 even though I almost exclusively used the 500mm 5.6 for over a year before selling the 200-500. The weight of the 500mm 5.6 was a big selling point, and it is a sharp lens. If I want to shoot in really low light, I have trouble, though. I'd purchase a larger aperture lens, but the cost and the weight are prohibitive.

From everything I’ve heard it’s a great lens, but if you’re not getting good results with the 200-500 either you got a bad copy or you need to work on your technique. The 200-500 is very capable of sharp images.

I have one for sale--not posted yet. PM me for details. Barely used, no issues. I'm downsizing to make way for an Olympus 150-400 f/4.5 omce available. (And to pay for it). Also 300 f/4 pf, 200 f/4 micro Nikkor, and a 300 f/4 Oly.

PM if interested.

Anyone have this lens "Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 500mm f/5.6E PF ED VR Lens"
please tell me how you like it........

I have had the PF 500mm for a year. Excellent performance, much lighter than my 200-500 zoom monster. I use both a Z7 and D780. The 500 is a F mount and works flawlessly on both. I have put the TC 1.4 on each body and the result stays sharp with some additional focus hunting on difficult areas (sky, smoke, steam, very low contrast). I highly recommend the 500 PF.

I have the 500mm f5.6 pf and love it. I got mine when it first came out. I use it a lot on my D 500 and D850. Most of the time I shoot it wide open at f5.6 or f6.3. I also use it with the Nikon 1.4x teleconverter. Great buy forthe money and it is not that heavy.

It depends on what you photograph. I go on safari in Southern Africa and have used Nikon 600 mm, Nikon 300 mm and Nikon 200-500, the prime lens where very excellent but limited on the picture framing. One time I had the eyeball of an elephant the next time the head of an impala. I found that the 200-500 worked the best. Just my experience.

Thanks for the information.......

I also have the Tamron 100-400 [ which I have sent back to Tamron twice for calibration ] and I have the Nikon 200-500 .......I just can't get the "tack sharp" photos with the 200-500.....my wife says I am too "picky!"...

So I have been looking at the 500....do you have any photos you could share with me .......I would ove to see them..

Thanks

Purchased a 200-500 lens when I couldn't' get a 500mm f5.6 PF lens. The 200-500 is an excellent lens, but has not been on my camera once since I got the 500 5.6 PF. Just a real
pleasure to use, takes great images.

I did (sell the 200 - 500mm) and bought the 500 mm pf. Love it -- sharp and fast on the D850.

I have and use it often on my Nikon DX bodies, often with a TC-14EII. It's very light and hand-holdable; under proper conditions it will produce tack sharp images. (This image actually taken with D850 and TC-14EII; 25% of original central image; hand-held.)

I have both. The 500pF is shorter and significantly lighter enabling this old, arthritic vet to catch BIF with ease!

Yes they are, please go back to page one and look at my post of a Roseate Spoonbill. I could post more, but what point would that make, the Nikon 500mm 5.6 PF lens delivers, period, end of story.
