When Nikon refurbishes a camera is the shutter overhauled so that it has nearly the same life as a new camera? Frank

I bought my Nikon bodies new from B&H. I have several refurbishedlenses from KEH, B&H and Nikon refurb store. All seem like new and perform as expected.

When I buy used, I look at the photos as well as the claimed shutter count of bodies. I have saved money with Adorama, KEH, B&H and independent sellers by buying used with an inspection/return privilege on ebay. I would not hesitate to do it again and again, based upon my experience. Always buy with a "return privilege" that allows you to inspect/try out the item you bought and keep it or return it if you are not happy. I buy carefully and am rarely unhappy.

Hello Zeke.

I've purchased two refurbished Nikon dslr bodies from B&H; a D80 in 2009, and a D7500 recently. Both were received in as-new condition. I've had no problems with either. I've also purchased used Nikkor lenses; a 50 mm AFD, a 24 mm AFD and an 18-70mm G from B&H. All were in mint condition and have functioned flawlessly.

Regards,

Marco

I've bought a couple of refurbed D5200s from Adorama and B&H. Both were like new and function perfectly more than 7 years later. Refurb is the way to go when buying Nikon IMO.

Can they do that?! Sounds like a used car lot setting the odometer back.

I assume that if a refurbished camera meets the same specs as a new one, then the shutter should be in the same condition as a new one. Otherwise, if the shutter is left as is and has 100K cycles on it, it is nearly half worn out. So, my question was what does Nikon do about the shutter when refurbishing. Frank

A refurbished camera will never have very many actuations. They’re not cameras that people have owned long enough. Sometimes they’re cameras that were defective when initially bought and returned, repaired, sometimes they’re perfectly good cameras that were returned for some other reason. They can’t be sold as new so they’re checked out, made like new and sold as a refurb.

Refurb D7500 from B&H last year. $599, 17 clicks. Great little camera. Sold D300, D2Xs to MPB.

I purchased a factory refurbished Nikon D750 from Cameta, now closed, it had a surprisingly high 2500 actuations on it but looked, smelled and worked as new. I previously had purchased a new D750 from B&H for $300 more but both were recalled for shutter replacement by Nikon at no charge. They replaced the covers on both and I could not tell them apart other than the serial numbers and both now had new shutters. Nikon did not change the original shutter count on either camera. I also purchased direct from Canon a refurbished G15 that looked new and has performed well. I had an excellent experience when purchasing a Sigma 24-35 f/2 lens that was refurbished. I did return a Nikon 70-200 f/4 refurbished lens directly purchased from Nikon for etching in the lens but they immediately gave me a full refund and I subsequently bought a new 70-200. Most of my gear was purchased new but I’ve bought used gear as well from MPB & KEH with no issues. I would have no hesitation in buying factory refurbished or used equipment from reputable dealers. Good luck!

Refurbished Df. $1700 @ B&H Photo. Never an issue. Two Refurbished lenses from Nikon USA. Not a problem. Saved a lot of money with the Refurbished route.

Do any of you Nikon shooters use refurbished cameras? If so, any problems? Also, which vendors do you patronize? Thanks for your replys.

Have bought and used several for many years. All came in perfect condition with very low shutter count. Very pleased with them.
