I understand, but you will need to upgrade your OS eventually so bite the bullet now. You are on XP and that is going to be a problem soon.

Faststone! I used it for about five minutes and sent them money (it's donation-ware). Never done that before. When they made a new version, I sent some more. I have Lightroom but find myself using Faststone for more than half of the editing I do for my website.

As an aside. You are putting us all at risk if you do not patch your operating system and other software. I understand that Stuxnet exploited a flaw that Microsoft had patched more than a year previously.

I was almost embarrassed to admit I only use Picassa. It is almost TOO simple. So glad to see so many other appreciate and still use it. Next problem is making yourself cut those apron strings with Picassa and moving up to PS something. I am still in automatic with picassa. Is there an icon with it's thumb in it's mouth?

Free and simple like my lady neighbor three doors down vintage Hippie that is now over these years a bit too Hippie and is no longer hip to the now world.

OK, I down loaded the Serif starter, and it is quite good. It gives steps in the "work flow" for fixing photo at the left and gives specific directions on "How to" just when you need them. Free and does simple and complex, but holds your hand.

Does anyone know of a good and simple free photo editor? I have GIMP and while it seems very powerful, I don't want to spend months learning how to use it. I tried to load Paint.net but it wants me to download a Microsoft service pack 3 and I hate doing that. I just want a basic editor, that maybe has some documentation I can print out.

Thanks

I really like this one "FastStone" and am using it exclusively now...

Faststone programs are very good, I use resize regularly. It is like a Swiss Army Knife, yet is Like a precision tool. With resize you can adjust dpi, long/short side size, add text, watermark etc. Combine with viewer and you have great versitility.

Don't worry about downloading service pack 3. It's something you should do anyway.

I have FastStone. It is great for reviewing and selecting pictures at fullscreen size. You can also tweak and crop the photos and do batch changes to multiple pictures. I still have GIMP for more complex processing.

I would totally love FastStone if it would allow me to add "tags" to images for cataloging images like Lightroom does. But its free, very simple, and user friendly.

I wonder why you don't upgrade your XP to SP3?
There's a lot of things on the internet that just simply won't work unless you have this upgrade installed.
The upgrade doesn't cost you anything to download.

I think there were issues with SP3 in the beginning, but have sense been patched.

Rone has GIMP2,,, hay, have you added MathMap.... it takes your photos to the Twilight Zone!! Fractals, etc.

You can setup a slide show in Faststone & it will allow you to tag photos. I will also allow you to add music so you can listen while you work.
