If you think about it, RAW photos are not going to be compatible with the Web. Convert to JPEG and try again.

Generally speaking the upload limit is 20 mb. There is a maximum number of files that can be uploaded at one time, but I forget what that number is - maybe 10 or 12 or so.

I would advise against uploading raw files. First, as you already know, they are too large, and second, they will not be viewable on line anyway. Raw files must be downloaded and viewed with a supporting viewer.

The best approach would be to edit the images, resize to 2048 px on the longest dimension, then convert to jpeg, sRGB color space. Files of this size are rarely larger than 2 mb each.

This may help, even though it is for a different section:

The process is very easy.

At the bottom of a posting dialog box, you have the ability to Choose File and store original. Use choose file to browse your drive for an image to post, and check the store original box to allow a larger than thumbnail sized, higher resolution image to be viewable and downloadable.

There is nothing convoluted or difficult here.

1. Open posting dialog
2. Choose File
3. Check store original
4. click "add attachment" to complete; upload or update (if adding an image to a post that has already been uploaded);

Here is an example of an image that has been downsampled to 2048px on the longest side and uploaded with the instructions I provided:

Here are the rules for posting photos on UHH.
Copied from admin. rules post.
As you can see, photos must be jpg. and 600 X 800 mpg. max dimension.

will

Rules:

- When attaching pictures, please make sure to use JPG files. They will be automatically resized and displayed in the posts. If you attach files of other types (such as DNG, CR2), then they won't show in the post. Instead, a download link will appear.

- Maximum dimensions for images are 600x800. So if you want to post a crop and be assured that it doesn't get reduced, then resize it on your end down to at most 600 pixels in width. Images with dimensions of 600x800 or less aren't modified during the upload process.

- "Store original" checkbox, if enabled, results in the original file you are uploading to be hosted alongside the downsized image. Please only enable it for panoramas or when you absolutely need to show a high resolution image. You can see the original file by using "Download" link shown below the downsized image.

- Original files are generally removed after six months to conserve disk space on the server. So if you enable "store original," then the downsized image will be kept on the forum indefinitely while the stored original file will be removed at some point in the future.

- Maximum combined attachment file size is 20MB. That's the total limit for all images attached to a single post.

The 600x800 is misleading. Photos can be as wide or tall as you desire as long as they don't exceed 20 mb file size. However, anything larger than 600x800 is compressed for the thumbnail view, which affects image quality. If using larger, be sure to enable download by clicking the "store original" box.

The "maximum combined attachment file size" isn't up to date. I have many topics with totals of more than 20 mb.

If the image is too large, it will generally be reduced automatically. I make mine 1500 px on the long side. Post JPEG, and you should be fine.

At the top of the page is a “Help” link. There is a topic section on how to post a picture. It wouldn’t hurt to read the other topics as well.

Edit Programs generally have in the procedure of "save as" a slider which allows you to reduce the image total quality. The reduction can also be done in "image>change image size"

"Large" in pixel dimensions is irrelevant. Regardless of dimensions, thumbnail views are 600 pixels wide (or smaller, if you loaded smaller than 600 px wide).

If a download is available, clicking on it shows the image at size originally uploaded. Browsers usually adapt to show you the full image, but you can zoom in to see details. Of course, if you have a massive-sized monitor, you don't have to worry

File size (megabytes) is what is relevant to posting on UHH. At approximately 20 mb, your pic will load; larger and it won't.

For help on both the 'how' and the 'why' to resize your images to 2048-pixels that will also avoid the 20MB attachment size limit of UHH:
