Canon M50, it has been number one there for a few years. And now there are rumors that 2021 will be the end of the M series. Replaced by a compact APS-C R series.

About time. Have just a few prized EFs lenses that are keeping me stranded in SLR Land. Soon, I can get an M50 at a bail out price plus the adapter.

That goes to show that the "majority" has absolutely no idea.

It is my belief that this cameras popularity is based on
its cost... and its buyers lack of photographic knowledge.

"Drivers" don't buy Toyota Corollas... the worlds largest selling car.
(except for talented Spanish girls; and that was when Corollas were rear wheel drive)

Remind me never to buy a used car from you !

"Best seller" quizzes don't really measure the abilities of the camera, what they really measure is the effectiveness of the advertising.

Sue, who traded in ALL of her Canon gear for an Olympus EM1iii and EM5iii which wear a PL 100-300 and/or an Oly 100-400 when birding and an assortment of smaller and ultra-sharp Oly lenses when on the street.

Actually I should have been more specific as I was referring to model and not brand. Yes, the Olympus EM-10 III is the winner in top sales per model in Japan in 2020.... I have no Idea what Brand itself has top sales.

What does that really mean that it is the top selling camera? Doesn't it mean it is in the average of price and quality? Isn't it going to be in the middle of the bell curve? So, the people who can't afford better quality will get the Olympus EM-10 III.

WHO knows what it means.... Don't shoot the messenger. Would you rather talk about JPEG VS. RAW for the 19th time ?

The posting was just info on what is selling, NOT a commentary on quality ,features, or any other attribute. You can conjecture all day and night as to WHY it sells so well but If I were running an automobile company for profit I would concentrate on what the masses want as opposed to what Drivers want.

Hi Sue... The post JUST commented on a best selling camera. Camera abilities are another issue.

I think the OP didn't ask which camera is best just which is best seller. In my on opinion the best seller is rarely the best and more often the worst.

Acoarst ! And is quite plain in those very words “best” and “seller”. Very honest.

Capability, reliability, etc etc are not part of the discussion.

When the AE-1 came out, all the Canon reps bought a new boat. It was a nasty horrible camera, but it was the first time ever that a system camera was peddled via a full blown TV ad campaign.

What do you base that mistake on?

Not that I'd want to sell you anything.

That's true.

I meant to add "Clever marketing" to my previous post after I thought more
deeply about this subject... but couldn't be fagged; however your post spurred me on.

"Micro Four Thirds".

1. It's "Micro"... must be good.
2. 4/3... One third bigger than the whole... (even though it is far less than that)
(But) What's not to lurv about a vulgar fraction.

Also, after the concept gained traction, possibly it was thought of
either consciously or subconsciously as "fashionable".

The Russian language responds to inflection really well;
for example when a Russian is told something that is
blatantly obvious he will say "yes"... and in his tongue it would go something like this:
"Daaaaaaaah!" ie. I know that it was not a commentary on (image) quality Bob

You have altered what I have said and have presented it as a quote.
You are a criminal.

And your claimed source of information is either
a outright lie on your behalf or disinformation...
Evidently though, my money is on the former, you
horrible organism.
