If you're talking about one specific model it was an Olympus (an EM-10 if I remember right).

Canon M50, it has been number one there for a few years. And now there are rumors that 2021 will be the end of the M series. Replaced by a compact APS-C R series.

I don't play that silly game Mac... I use Canon, Sony, Olympus and Sigma in NO particular order. Each Format and brand has its own upsides and downsides. Have you ever tried to support 4 wives equally ? No wonder I am always broke !

Actually I should have been more specific as I was referring to model and not brand. Yes, the Olympus EM-10 III is the winner in top sales per model in Japan in 2020.... I have no Idea what Brand itself has top sales.

When I visited Japan in the late 80's Olympus was a very popular brand and their lenses well regarded. I admit that it is a surprise that the Olympus EM-10 Mk III was the camera that sold most in Japan because I was expecting it was a Sony.
I have used the EM-10 Mk II successfully. It is a little, nice camera that gets the job done. The Mk III most have more advanced technologies, I am not familiar with it.
Hopefully the new Olympus owners will continue the tradition.

Like you (I think), I hope the Olympus doom and gloom predictors are proven wrong. I know a number of people who shoot Olympus, produce striking and marvelous images, and are loyal to the brand.

Have a friend that went to Patagonia & Antarctica on a photo trek a couple of years ago. He bought & took an Olympus em10 because of the smallness @ light weight on the trip & got some really good pics.

That goes to show that the "majority" has absolutely no idea.
It is my belief that this cameras popularity is based on
its cost... and its buyers lack of photographic knowledge.
"Drivers" don't buy Toyota Corollas... the worlds largest selling car.
(except for talented Spanish girls; and that was when Corollas were rear wheel drive)
