GAS = Gear Acquisition Syndrome.

I went from Nikon to Fuji a few years back. No regrets at all.
The jpegs SOOC are amazing, I’m so not into sitting for hours editing.
Also panorama mode fabulous, no stitching them together myself it does it in camera.
I can shoot in 3 different modes at one time, ie: Vivid, Crome, Soft Astia.
Have fun deciding.

I did the same, sold my d500 went to Fuji xt3. Weight and bulh were my main reasons needed something compact and light but all functions, that I would tskeevery who am very happy with my choice

My thought is this: Going forward, in not too many years down the road, ALL new cameras will be mirrorless. When that day comes, existing cameras will be worth something less than what they are worth today.

I just bought a very old Pentax Super Takumar f1.4 50mm lens for $100. It is the same lens I used on my first SLR, a Pentax Spotmatic II which I got in 1972. The lens did not cost that much at that time. Good lenses retain their value both as a collectible and as a usable alternative to modern expensive lenses. What would we have to pay for a modern f1.4 50mm lens today?

All I am saying is do not change systems just because you think your current equipment is going to lose value. You will go broke trying to stay current.

Hello Johnny
A little south of you is a great camera shop called The Photo Center in Brick NJ. They are great they take layaways and a lot of used equipment and rentals. Worth looking into. Talk to Jeff or Brendan.

The market has already spoken to camera manufacturers.
You aren't going to see any new DSLR's from Canon and Sony...Canon has discontinued its EF lens line, as Sony has.
Nikon says it will keep making new ones...take that as you wish. I think it's the only place they see the potential for black ink...in the short term. They are not doing well in the mirrorless arena financially.

Everyone else is moving on. Tech will fade with DSLR's...processor and sensor innovation will stop if it hasn't already.

Does that mean you should sell your DSLR? No.
Just don't expect any improvements down the line...all the research coin is going to mirrorless now.

Nikon's camera division is Not going out of business. Nikon is transferring many of their cameras manufacturing to Thailand and decreasing their emphasis on their lower end cameras. Nikon will pace their emphasis on the serious amateur and professional camera and lense market where they earn more profit going forward.

I would recommend, that if you'd like to going mirrorless that you consider either the newly released Z6 II or the Z7 II cameras. Also purchase the Nikon FTZ adaptor so that you may use all your Nikon F lenses on your mirrorless camera. I have this FTZ adaptor for my Nikon Z camera and my F lenses work very well. I also have some legacy Nikon lenses (AIS and AI) and these legacy lenses work well on my FTZ adaptor and my Z camera. Check these Nikon new Z II cameras on line. Good luck and don't worry about Nikon going out of business.

A Nikon z50 with a FTZ will allow you to continue using your current lenses as long as they are Af-s, af-p, or their 3rd party equivalents. I use my z50 more than my z5. The 16-50 standard kit lens is very light.....I think the camera/lens combo is under 1 pound. This combo is capable of very good photos. And unlike your 500, it has a built in flash that is perfect for fill. It is becoming my favorite body/lens combination. My D750 mostly is a dust collector since I bought the z50.

I currently bought a new D500 and the Nikon Z6 mirrorless. I love both. With the adaptor on the Z6 I am able to use many other old lens ( not too old or they won't work- check Nikon site for the list) on the Z6 and so far all are producing outstanding results. Although I have not had the Z6 more than 6-7 months I love what it does and its fun learning all the extra menu features and auto focus options. I have used it with a 50mm prime, 70-200mm F/2.8, the 100-400mm F/5 Sigma and the 24-70mm F/4 that comes with the camera. Sticking to Nikon other than that one Sigma lens but research for me indicated Sigma has more choices than Tamron lens. If you love your D500, you will love Z6 or Z7 and should stick to Nikon.

It’s simply "mirrorless", not mirrorless DSLR because DSLR's have mirrors. What you’re looking for is a mirrorless digital camera.

With the wrong camera, success is probably 99% luck. But with a mirrorless camera, it's 100% the photographer.

Paul, I’m disappointed and concerned. Are you starting to repeat yourself? 😳🤓

2 years ago switched to Sony AR7III. Happy with my choice. Have a nikon 70-200 mm F2 ( great lens) if anyone is interested in purchase.

I'd be embarrassed if I repeat the same comment on the same thread. Some I think are truthier than others. Here's one less used, short, to the point, and grounded on something we all believe:

You can't replace luck and timing. But, you can mirrorless.

It stands for Gear Acquisition Syndrone referring to that hankering feeling you get when you find photographic equipment you think you can't live without. When you experience that sensation, do not reach for your wallet; instead, find someone you trust, stick your hand out and ask them to pull your finger.

GAS is only good if you have the need and the resources to support it. Cheers
