I really like Lightroom Classic. After the trial period, I am using it on a subscription basis, which bundles Photoshop and Cloud Services. There is a big learning curve, at least for me, but they have great on-line remote support. I also am going to take classes offered by the Leica Store in Coral Gables Florida. I am amazed what you can do with Lightroom classic and photoshop and it is easy to go back and forth. Lightroom Classic is great for editing and organizing your pictures.

My son really loves Affinity. He’s a techie junkie and loves all the graphics, bells and whistles it offers. He loaded it on my MAC computer and I’m beginning to explore it. I haven’t used it very much because I need to really take time and study up to explore all it has to offer. I don’t have a mirror camera or even a mirror less one but use my iPhone to take my photos. I post edit using Snapseed mostly but also Photoshop, and depending on my mood, some other ones for special effects they offer. Best to experiment to find your preferred one. Best of luck and look forward to seeing your fantastic pics!
Thanks for the heads-up on GLIMPSE. Now if someone would rework Audacity, I'd be really happy!

Hello everyone, My name is Beth, I have been away from photography for a couple of years and currently have chosen to get back into it. I have decided not to use photoshop via cloud as my photo editing software. I am entertaining Affinity Photo instead. I would appreciate anyone's feedback or recommendation on an alternate photo editing program.
I have used Affinity Photo for 4 years now and it really works for me. The raw developer is a little light but it doesn't matter because after the raw engine is used (If you shoot RAW), the Photo Persona model has an extensive array of tools.
The layout is similar to Photoshop and many of the tools have similar names. It uses layers to create different effects non-destructively.
Test out the trial version to get a feel for its capabilities. A few hundred vides available to help you along

It’s really TWO different versions of Lightroom.
“Adobe Photoshop Lightroom” is networked through the Adobe Cloud, so you can synchronize your images and work on them anywhere. It runs on Windows PCs, Macs, iPads and Android tablets.
“Adobe Lightroom Classic” is a stand-alone desktop Mac/PC app. It has evolved as the working professional choice for an image database, parametric editor, printing tool, web poster, export tool, and geo mapping tool.
“Adobe Photoshop” is the unparalleled bitmap editor, evolved since the late 1980s. It does a lot of everything, so it can be a black hole that sucks all your time. BUT, when you need it, it has what you need.
“Adobe Bridge” is a simple image browser/rating tool and parametric editor based on the same Adobe Camera Raw processor in the Lightrooms and Photoshop.
You get ALL those apps for ten bucks a month.

You need GLIMPSE software! PS and LR equivalent! It's FREE and never charges for upgrades! It's an improved GIMP! Download it, learn it for free, and never pay for software.

No she doesn't need GLIMPSE. An no it is not a PS and LR equivalent. LR is one of the best and most extensively featured digital asset management programs available. GLIMPSE has 0 file management capability. LR is a parametric editor. GLIMPSE is a raster editor. LR is a raw file converter and PS contains ACR to convert raw files. GLIMPSE again: bupkis. The OP noted wanting to work with raw files.
Early in the thread the OP indicated she's interested in doing at least some amount of composite work. That type of work typically requires software with good masking/selection capabilities. PS and Affinity which she's looking at now both have excellent masking/selection capabilities and will support her efforts. GLIMPSE has masking/selection capabilities that are, let's be generous here, crude by comparison. Hard to think of a more frustrating tool to do that kind of work. Composite work is time consuming and can take hours to complete one image. GLIMPSE will extend the work time by double, triple or more. Assume a composite takes two hours to complete using PS/Affinity. You'd rather work 6 hours on it? Affinity is $50.00. GLIMPSE is free. What's your time worth?
Maybe both. I have simple editors for simple tasks.

Any advice: I am considering moving from capture1 one to the fuji software and my Mac OS file system as my editing software. I’m doing this for fun, but more and more it’s become a technology issue.

By Fuji software do you mean X-Raw Studio? Capture One Express is available free for Fuji camera users.
