Any advice: I am considering moving from capture1 one to the fuji software and my Mac OS file system as my editing software. I’m doing this for fun, but more and more it’s become a technology issue.

1) Currently, Capture One Express for Fujifilm software is Intel-Mac-compatible on MacOS Catalina 10.15.7.

2) Be sure the Capture One Express for Fujifilm software at least runs with Rosetta 2 translation on the M1, if not natively, before buying an M1 Mac.

3) If you don’t have a Mac, or will soon replace one, then <eventually> get one of the new M1 Macs (Mini, Air, or Pro). They’re SCREAMING fast for the price (see YouTube).

3) If you use Apple Photos, get the Raw Power Plug-in for it. It is an advanced version of the raw file processor in the old Apple Aperture. It runs natively on ALL recent Macs. It also works with other programs (under $50 — buy it in the Apple App Store.).

4) Consider Serif Affinity Photo ($50). It is also useful with Apple Photos and Raw Power.

I learned PP back when Photoshop was the only non-minimalist program. Steep learning curve, a couple of college classes but once learned, it works well. Some updates over the years changed it a bit but able to be dealt with without extra classes. I recommend it.

I have used Affinity Photo for 4 years now and it really works for me. The raw developer is a little light but it doesn't matter because after the raw engine is used (If you shoot RAW), the Photo Persona model has an extensive array of tools.

The layout is similar to Photoshop and many of the tools have similar names. It uses layers to create different effects non-destructively.

Test out the trial version to get a feel for its capabilities. A few hundred vides available to help you along

If you're a Mac user, check out the Raw Power plug-in in the App Store. For $30 it adds advanced raw editing to your system, along with a WIDE array of other features, many of which were in Apple Aperture a few years ago. (The developer worked for Apple on the Aperture project!) Raw power can work with Photos and Affinity Photo...

I've been using Paintshop PRO for many years now. Currently using the most recent (2021), along with Topaz and Nik plugins. No complaints.

Hello everyone, My name is Beth, I have been away from photography for a couple of years and currently have chosen to get back into it. I have decided not to use photoshop via cloud as my photo editing software. I am entertaining Affinity Photo instead. I would appreciate anyone's feedback or recommendation on an alternate photo editing program.

I have used different editing software and now it's Affinity AI 100%. Been using Affinity for a while and really enjoyed it, have switched to AI and WOW, it's awesome. This is all based on what I do, I am not using it 100%.
One more thing is that it wasn't difficult to learn.
Good Luck

Affinity Photo ahould do all that you want. You can go crazy trying out different software. I had done that and always go back to PS CS6 and LR 6, I stay away from the Cloud, Period. I found that all this software has made me a better 'Image Taker'. I try to take the image as I would like to see it in print or on the screen. But, we all know that a better image is always there, waiting to be exposed.
