An atheist goes for a walk in the woods.....
Then he sees the light.
Merry Christmas all.

If he is a true atheist, he will not see that light as we see it.
Merry Christmas, Stay Safe and healthy.
If he is a true atheist he won't see the true light until after it hits him. :)
Reminds me of the dyslexic devil worshipper carrying the sign
RENOUNCE YOU DOG AND GIVE YOUR SOUL TO SANTA!
Merry Christmas to you and to all members of the forum. Big family.

That’s funny. 😊
And for the record, my wife and I are humanists and freethinkers and do not believe in any religion. There is no solid evidence for a god. But there is a powerful emotion to believe in one: Fear of death!
Mankind is hard-wired for superstition (religion)...an ancient survival tool.
The problem with superstition is...there are over 3000 today.
Most have their own books...all claiming to be true.
We all have some form of belief structure, but intolerance leads to conflict. Please enjoy the holidays safely and keep on sharing.

There is so much intolerance and so much conflict, as you so rightly say. We need much more in the way of enquiring minds, especially as we face significant global challenges that we, as a world society, have to resolve. I am reminded of the teachings of Richard Dawkins. Sorry, I didn’t mean to hijack the thread. Everyone have a wonderful break from an interesting year! 😎

If the planet and solar system are millions/billions of years old and certain current religions are two thousand or less years old, how should one view creation and current religions? (I have fossils of plants that are supposedly 15 millions of years old.)

My reply is because religions are the invention of man and modern man is less than 10,000 years old and that was when humans turned to agriculture. Even later civilisation of us humans progressed to government, philosophy, religions and ‘modern’ cultures. I wish I knew more!
Which God? There has been over 34 million through human history. Religion? The greatest Ponzi scheme of all time.

The concept of "Entaglement" in quantum physics, which I do not understand at all, claims that an electron, or a piece of energy, as it were, can be connected to another piece of energy in such a way that an effect on one will produce the same identical effect on the other. The interesting thing about this theory is that this mirroring is not dependent on proximity. I.e. it can take place instantaneously in both energy quanta despite being thousands of light years in distance apart from each other. The influence of one upon the other happens faster than the speed of light.
Yes, i believe there are still impenetrable mysteries in our universe. Remember, we all are composed of atoms. Where did these atoms come from? Where are they going to go? Are atoms matter? Or are they pure energy? Merry Christmas all.
