An atheist goes for a walk in the woods.....

Agreed that love through fear is oxymoronic. Religion has for the most part been hijacked by organizations interested in power and money. However, if the door to your wheelhouse is not locked and welded shut, you may benefit by one of many gifts supplied by our earth in the form of certain mushrooms, herbs, etc.
More information please? I have personal knowledge and experience with what you are alluding to. But it hasn't produced any major realignments in my world view. Not as it pertains to my thoughts about religion or an afterlife anyway.
God is man's most amazing creation. Though residing so deeply only in man's imagination, he exerts so much power and influence over him. Atheists know better.

I have been wondering about practical application possibilities. Thanks for the link. Somehow this figures into quantum computing i suppose. What i wonder about is the practicality of it as it must be conducted at near absolute zero temperatures.
That is a powerful contribution to the discussion.
I shan’t argue with you but reserve the right to disagree. I have the greatest respect for christians, being a white, male originally from Britain, and less of an understanding of other faiths, simply through a lack of knowledge.
All of us, believers and non-believers alike, worldwide, have to come together in 2021 and beyond to achieve the goal of making this planet a long term place for all, especially the young.
We cannot fail!
Happy New Year to everyone!

I can only testify to my own experience, as a young man, when my entire world view experienced what i can only describe as my personal "Big Bang"
I was rebellious and troubled, and despite having done something frowned upon by the law, My mother who was intensely Spiritual, admitted that something in me had changed for the better.
I'm an atheist, and am struck every day by Earth's beauty and grandeur. I see no need to credit it to god any more than to blame "him" for the tragedies that also occur every day.
Absolutely! The founding fathers even back then were wise and astute enough to keep church and state separate. Now, if only we can stay true to that vision by swearing in the next president with his left hand on a copy of the Constitution, instead of a well-worn Bible. And yes, creationism must never be allowed to be taught in the science classes of our Bible Belt.

Again, I want to commend all the comments on this forum. Each have submitted their own thoughts and each are to deserve "the tipping of my hat" to each one.

Thanks for your response. I understand exactly what you are saying about a personal Big Bang. Many people say an experience like that turns them to God or at least to religion, which is not the same thing. I learned from those experiences that self reliance and looking inward allows me to get where I want to go. Without any interpreters with their hand held out, either for money or a kiss on the ring.
This has been a very interesting discussion. Even though I did not start this way, through the study of evolution, especially the evolution of the universe, I have sided with the evolution concept, as I have indicated before. I understand that at this time, 29% of the worlds population claim to be Christian.

And as humans learn more about the beginnings of the universe, piece together new links in the evolutionary tree from steady anthropological finds, and derive new insights into life's beginnings from molecular biology, that 29% will certainly decline further. One needs only go back a few hundred years into the Church's history to see how frightening it was.
