While most pros do use Canon is not because its preferred, the reason why many pros use canon is because many agencies like AP, Getty and Local newspapers are contracted by Canon.
Many of those same photogs tell me they prefer Nikon over Canon because Nikon lens are sharper, but they have to use Canon because they are contracted by their agencies to use Canon only.
Also those said photogs do NOT own their gear.

How large a pool of photographers tell you these things, and are they all in the same general area?

I don't doubt the information, but always wonder when folks say things like "all the pros I know", how many they know. I only know 3. Two of three now shoot Nikon. Only one has stayed loyal to one brand over the past 20 years. A couple a switches over the years were to get what they felt was better gear at the time, and a couple were about $$$.

I think it an age thing. Seems like a lot of old folk here.
99% of all technical photography questions could be answered ad nauseam on You Tube.
It's as if they haven't even figured out how to use a search engine.

I believe an increasing number of UHH members are quietly adding Fuji cameras to their bags. Just sayin’...

Man I wish I could afford an XT-3 or a 4 and some glass. What a beautiful camera.

I see photos on line or on T.V. of pros at events with their Canon cameras and their white long zooms, with only a few other cameras.. Not sure how I can asses if there are more Canon users than other brands...

It’s pretty much sorta kinda almost exactly like you conjecture, but just a teenzie weenzie bit different enuf to provoke at least ten pages of highly entertaining arguments from the UHH “online experts” and fabuless fanbois.

Well, I see we’re now resurrected and barely made it to page 8. Sputtering along, page 10 is now on the horizon.

A humongabous thank you for your bringing this up. See ya in the funny papers ! Nicely done.

Since UHH disallows deleting posts accidentally started by clumsy fingers, figgered a useless photo fits the space.

Ok so we mostly know that all marketing is mainly chasing the 18 to 35 year old demographic. And we see that for less serious imaging, that group uses phones.

Given the above, why doesn’t the photo industry marketing bunch realize that entry level fancy cameras are for old farts and therefore should be waaaaay less confusing to use yet still appearing to be advanced gear.

Hasta look like advanced gear cuz that tells other old farts “I still got all my marbles. I can use this pro camera” ... even tho it’s obviously less than true.

I am a Nikon user because I was a Nikon user.

Started 35mm with a Kodak camera. That got replaced with an Exakta SLR in the '50s. My wife had a Nikkormat in the late '60s, which got used until I went digital in '99 with some cheap (for the time) P&S cameras. A friend had a D70 and it looked pretty good to me so I looked for one. It was no longer in production so I got a D200. Stuck with Nikon because I had lenses for the Nikkormat. Of course they were old lenses so I eventually got newer ones AF/S. Then a D3. Then a D4, Then a D800e. Then a D5.

Nikon works for me so I will stick with it. Have never tried a Canon.

I think entry level DSLRS like the Nikon D3xxx and Canon Rebels are going to disappear.

I always was attracted to the Nikon F. It was the most beautiful thing outside of an XKE that I had ever seen. Just had to have one. Got it and have never been disappointed. Took a long time for me to go digital as I didn't want to give it up. So take your Canons, they make good paperweights.

Back in the late 70s I used to drive around in my 1967 Jaguar XKE looking for things to shoot with my Nikon F.

Are you jealous yet?

Oooops...just realized I responded to a 2 year old post.

Unless you're stirring things up why would you make posting like this? I use both but I prefer Nikon by a long shot. I don't knock Canon because of my preference. I make good images with both. I'll put my long black thing up against your long white thing any days of the week. Ignorant bait posting.

At more than 2 years after they posted this, ( June 6, 2018 ), it's probably a little late to pick a fight with the OP over the topic ...

I lived with Nikon's for years. I have said here before we had a big Audio Visual
company slide shows with 30 slide projectors sometimes more programmed to create
a wide screen show that clients loved. This is before big screens etc and huge
video projection. All our aquisition cameras for location were Nikons with a 35mm lens.
Always had a couple of Nikons. The D300 and D700 were great traveled with them
to use for background stills for the shows. I had many others.
Offered work shooting Trialthlons and Running festivals. I am a producer
and advertising guy 70% or my work was not for jobs.
I bought 2 D800's and was not happy. I had patience good camera
but too many annoying things about them. Not fair it was a new line
and in time that had it. Even Canon who admire (more for their video
cameras has had overheating times in the beginning. So did Sony.
I am in the process if lightening up and using Fuji cameras and lens.
Going to sell most of my Sony's like them a lot but things change.
Nikon does not need to invent anything they still are in all our minds.
