A second hand D7000 or D7100 isn't going to cost much more than what a D90 would cost and they are both better cameras.

A D90 with a 24-120 3.5-5.6 on it is a virtual 36-180mm competent and ideal hiking, canoeing, kayaking don’t worry about it, great combination for 11x17 prints and no worries over theft and damage.

I bought a D200 for $35, works great, love the CCD & 1/8000 shutter. I just might pay $50 for a D90, but not a penny more.

I got a D90 when it first came out, but I've moved on. It's an old camera with old technology, and a used one will probably have lots of shutter actuations. If you're willing to pay $100 - $200 for a D90, they're available on eBay. Otherwise, there are newer Nikon DX cameras available, like the D5200 or D7000.

I used the D90 for many years to produce photos for the many art shows at which I exhibited. I enlarged to 11x14 and 13x19 prints with no degradation. 8x10 prints were always outstanding. This camera was such a workhorse that one time a rock out crop I was on cell and I was sliding down a hill into a river while the camera was around my neck. When I got home I soaked the camera and water until it ran clear by then pack the camera up in a bag of rice and kept changing that out every couple of days after about three weeks I popped a new battery in the D90 and it worked flawlessly for another seven years until I sold it to upgrade to my D7500.

Does anyone still own and/or shoot with the Nikon /D90? I presently shoot with the Nikon D600, but want a crop sensor camera for a second camera. Is the D90 still worth buying? I know the specs, only a 12.3 MP camera, so would like some advice from use.rs of the D90.

I have two of them, one "workhorse" other a barely used "backup", great old Nikon's, still relevant, still make wonderful pics (some limitations with 12.3mp for heavy cropping), but really, unless your pixel peeping....., I can look back at years of photos and I have no complaints (except maybe not using the backup as much). Been meaning to sell at least one, but haven't due to the low resale values on older DX DSLRs, sentimental I guess.........

I still use them a lot outdoors, especially if I want to leave one sitting out while I'm doing things, in case of a quick shot opportunity = like the one I missed when Air Force One drop out of the clouds at low altitude right over my house, with escort no less...ran in for camera, too late!!!

Yes I use my D7100 and D7200 much more (mostly), but I also still use my Sony Nex/A300/A37/A58 for various things...when I need higher resolution I go to the D71/7200, but quite often the mega pixel rating has nothing to do with the outcome................

As said prior, don't spend a lot, but still an enjoyable, good working camera.

I used a D70, no experience with the D90 but from my conversations with others using the camera I knew they were happy with its performance. The chances are excellent that Nikon is no longer servicing the D90.

The D200 is another camera that introduced in 2005 it is already obsolete technically speaking. It had the same wonderful first generation colors of the D2X, its professional counterpart. I used the D200 and fell in love with it because of the colors. Like cameras of that age when it came to dynamic range and noise performance it came short on both. The images were of excellent quality.

Any of those two cameras in good condition and with a relatively low mileage could serve you well but let me warn you again, the chances are excellent Nikon will no longer support them.

When my brother-in-law passed away a few years ago, I received his D80. Played around with it and it produced excellent photos. However, I'm a Canon person so I gave the camera to a fledgling photo student. The technology has increased dramatically since this camera was made. Would recommend using your money for a newer model.

I have been using the D90 for 10 years and am happy with the results. When one broke down a few months ago I bought another gently used on as a back up. I keep an 18-105 Nikon on one and an 18-200 on the other. They work just fine with all my AF, AF-D and AF-S lenses. The menu system is easy to operate and 12 megapixels is enough for my needs. I have a D3300 if I need it too, but the D90 is like an old trusted friend. The technology may be old but so am I. I am content with what have.

I have a D90 as my back-up for my D7200, and to keep a shorter lens on when I'm using my 200-500 lens on the 7200. It has never failed and produces good quality images if used with good glass. But, I would recommend going with a better upgrade for repairs if needed and better resolution.

I have a D90 as a second shooter. Buy it if under $200 in excellent condition and low shutter count. Not repairable but will possibly last forever. Produces wonderful images up to ISO 1600 and maybe up to 3200. I use it with all of my AF-D lenses. 12.3 MP is more than enough. Just doesn’t crop as well as your 24MP D600. Enjoy!!

I still use my D90 as a backup for my Z6. I have nothing but praise for the D90, and it has produced many excellent images. Clearly it is overtaken by advances in camera technology, but a new car, despite its improvements, does not make a beautiful 1960s model "bad", just outdated.

Never use new money to buy an old camera.
