I try and try to come up with better alternatives, but always come back to the DX 18-300. I can’t do without the 300mm reach, and don’t want to forgo the wide possibilities. If i can take two, they would be the DX 16-80 and the FX 70-300.

On my Nikon 7200 I’ve traveled quite a bit with the 18-300 lens. Didn’t want to travel with a bunch of lenses. It’s been quite good all around

I use the Nikon 24 - 120 MM lens but lately switched to the Nikon 28 - 300 MM lens for more reach. The 24 - 120 MM seems to be sharper.

I go with the Nikkor 24-120 as my walk around lens.

You would probably get just fine with a moderate zoom 25mm - 105mm? (Or if you can find one 20mm - 150mm)
Good Luck!

I also use a Nikon 18-140 as my walk around lens. The 18-130 is cheaper but far inferior while the 18-140 does a very good job and is not too large. I carry longer and wider lenses in my backpack but rarely have to use them.

It depends on you. Do you shoot birds, insects or landscape? I would say I use a Tamron 28 -300mm as the 18- 300 does not focus fast enough for racing. But that is me. I have taken my 28-330 plus a wide angle (to fill my wide need) as my only lenses to Europe and Asia several tomes. But again that's me, we all are different. Some won't use a non camera name lens as they don't think they are as good.
Your choice is a personal choice based upon you type of photography you take and your opinion on how you feel about quality "?" choices. I did not bring up camera brand as that would start another go around. Good luck and have fun

I have the d7200 with several lenses. I had the kit lenses...18-55 and 55-300. Also have the 18-140 that I still sometimes use along with a few other lenses...but the lens I have on my camera most of the time, especially while traveling, is my Nikon 18-300. I really like this lens.

It lets me zoom in close to distant objects and allows a wide view when needed. When used in wide angle it is not bad in low light situations like a museum or inside a church...

Hi y'all,

Looking for suggestions for an all around
lens for travel for my Nikon D7200.

Thank you.

I have a Nikon 18-300 f3.5-6.3 on my old but trusty D5300 camera. It's been all over the world with me and it has given me some glorious shots....as if it knows there is an idiot at the controls 🙄

The OP wants a lens for his D7200, a DX camera. With either the 24-120 or 28-300, both FX lenses, he would have a not very wide 36 or 42 mm equivalent at the low end. The Nikon 18-140 3.5 5.6 DX got excellent reviews, and would provide a very useful range for not a great deal of money.

The sweet walk-around lens for my D7500 is the Nikon 18-140 DX. It has very good IQ, with decent reach at the long end, while avoiding the bulk and weight of the super zoom alternatives.

I'm old school, get a Nikon 28mm f2.8 D lens. Zoom with your feet.

Nikon 16-80 f2.8/4 is a fantastic lens that covers the 'sweet spot' for most walk around situations. Or, if you can find a good used 16-85, it will do the same thing just a stop slower. Check out mpb for their used inventory. I have found them to be reliable and truthful in their description of product condition.

You might consider a Nikkor 18-200/3.5-5.6 DX. Smaller and lighter than the 18-300 DX, but you trade ff the last 100mm. I use one on my D7200 which replaced my D300. Great general purpose lens that is light enough to walk around with.
