From Gerald Posner’s book ‘Case Closed’ at pp. 315-316, 454:
• “The backward movement is the result of two factors. First, when the bullet destroyed the President’s cortex, it caused a neuromuscular spasm, which sent a massive discharge of neurologic impulses from the injured brain shooting down the spine to every muscle in the body. ‘The body then stiffens….with the strongest muscles predominating. These are the muscles of the back and neck….’ They contract, lurching the upward and to the rear….” (internal quotations in the original).
• “Millions were shocked by its graphic detail (i.e. the Zapruder film), and especially the image of Kennedy’s head snapping back and to the left after the final shot. Without an understanding of the of the medical evidence or the physics involved, it appeared as though the President reacted to a bullet fired from the front, rather than the rear as the Commission had concluded.”
• Head also driven back because: 1) President’s back brace (required due to WW II injury) exacerbated the effect 2) exit wound ‘Jet Effect’ carries forward with more momentum than entry wound

First I want to Thank You for providing this evidence,,,still a bullet from the back of the Presidents Head would have caused it to initially rock forward, even if these conditions that the Experts cited caused it to rock backwards after rocking forward from the initial impact of the bullet, the Zapruder Tape does not show that...
I guess we will have to agree to disagree, I will always think the President was Murdered by more than just Oswald....Thanks again for the additional information...

Anytime. My pleasure. It's tragic, especially for those of us who recall that day, but interesting stuff. I've used some of the forensics in the training I've done for the lawyers in my shop. A lot of the confusion starts with the extraordinarily poor quality of the autopsy. Also, the Zapruder film is incomplete. At least one of the shots came while the President's limousine was behind the highway sign. Posner's book is fantastic.
