I shot professionally with 30D many years ago. By today's standards, it's not up to the task. But I've sold many pictures made with a pair of 8MP 30D. I upgraded to 30D from 6MP 10D and later upgraded from 30d to 50D (better AF, 15MP), then to other Canon later.

I think the 30D was the last of the Canon to shoot 12bit image files.... all subsequent models are 14bit. This is the color "palette"... the number of different shades and tonalities... the camera is capable of capturing. It usually doesn't matter very much, but there may be some image processing software that won't be able to handle the 30D's RAW files (Canon's own Digital Photo Pro stopped working with some of the earlier cameras, but I think they fixed it.) If you shoot JPEGs, no problem.

This is not to say that 30D aren't perfectly capable. In fact, today's Rebel T7 and Rebel SL3 cameras use virtually the same AF system as the 30D (and 20D before it). 30D has a higher performance, higher specification shutter than any of the Rebel series, too.

The main difference I saw going from 30D to 50D was more resolution (15MP vs 8MP) meant that I could make larger prints OR had more flexibility to crop. About the largest I ever printed 30D was 11X14 (I do recall a few 16x20, though). There wasn't much difference in high ISO performance... I tried to keep to no higher than ISO 1600 with both 30D and 50D (but that's actually a favorable thing for 50D, since it has almost 2X the resolution, without "harming" higher ISOs).

Isn't that the truth. I started out with some really decent, but not great Nikon and Canon film cameras. I even had a Minolta 7000i as I was 13 and 21 for the 7000i, which by the way I bought on my own. The rest of the gear was from my parent's wallets, they just wanted to make sure that I was going to stick with it. Well, I did and now I can say that I produced some very nice shots on film and still have them today. My parents let me, age 17, tour with Led Zeppelin on their North American tour and I must say, I turned out some nice work back then. I remember going over pics with Robert Plant and Jimmy Page and they were awestruck by my work. So, I was lucky and sometimes that beats out being good.

Found this shot of then Senator Joseph Biden campaigning in one of his unsuccessful runs for the Dem. Presidential nomination , here campaigning at the National Convention of the NEA (National Education Association) in Wilmington, Delaware. When I looked at the image data, I saw that I had taken this photo with a Canon 30D camera and a 70-200mm Canon lens. This photo has been published countless times around the world.

So yes the Canon 30D can and has made countless professional quality images. It is more about your skill, knowledge and creative vision than the equipment. I used all generations of Nikon and Canon gear for decades and now use Sony gear. I have made great shots with all of them. Cheers

I spent to much on the 30D and Lenses when I bought Them for My Wife to Just Throw Them Away and I have an iPhone XS Max, but well a phone is made to make phone calls with not replace a camera! My 2 cents and I hope that doe doesn't quit running!
