Please folks this is NOT a Political post. It is a photography post only folks. No political comments please. As an award-winning pro photojournalist of over four decades I have covered all GOP and Dem Presidents and candidates since I was a white house photo intern under Pres. Gerald Ford (A Republican).

Found this shot of then Senator Joseph Biden campaigning in one of his unsuccessful runs for the Dem. Presidential nomination , here campaigning at the National Convention of the NEA (National Education Association) in Wilmington, Delaware. When I looked at the image data, I saw that I had taken this photo with a Canon 30D camera and a 70-200mm Canon lens. This photo has been published countless times around the world.

So yes the Canon 30D can and has made countless professional quality images. It is more about your skill, knowledge and creative vision than the equipment. I used all generations of Nikon and Canon gear for decades and now use Sony gear. I have made great shots with all of them. Cheers

I have a question someone mentioned i might need extension tubes , can someone fill me in as to what that might be? Also Thanks for all the replys to my question and it sounds to me like i need to get off my booty and take some pictures! OH also do you think it will damage my camera to haul it in the hard saddlebag on my 2016 harley Streetglide in an insulated camera bag?

Kenko or Canon extension tubes are both useful and compatible with your 75-300 lens to help for close-up / macro work. The Kenko tubes are prone to break, especially for longer lenses and / or heavier camera bodies. They're cheaper and not built as robust as the much more expensive and sturdy Canon versions. You just have to be more careful, but you don't currently have the larger / heavier equipment to expose this Kenko weakness.

As long as the camera is not jumbling around inside the saddlebag, riding on a motercycle won't be a problem. Having the camera inside a smaller, padded, tightly packed camera bag is the proper approach.

For the Biden image, the lens is the determining factor, that image is using one of Canon's premier 70-200 f/2.8L professional lenses. These lenses, especially the L-series, are built for long, everyday usage, 'long' as measured in decades or lifetimes. Your 75-300 can deliver just as sharp an image, but not in this low light where this image at 100mm was captured at f/3.2. Your 75-300 has a smaller variable aperture maximum that starts at f/4 at 75mm, and getting smaller as the lens zooms to 100mm. If the same view and distance was an outside daytime rally, you'd likely be in business with your current kit.

It does help to start new threads with new questions / topics, in case people have stopped 'watching' older threads.

Now I am Jealous, You are one Lucky Rascal, Led Zeppelin , Plant and Page that is just awesome! Led Zeppelin and Pink Floyd are my favorite Bands !

It seems like a dream now, but when I was in it, I have to say that nothing could compare to those days. It was one heckuva ride. What made it so cool, looking back, was the fact that I was in the middle of History. I was slated to re-unite with them when they were supposed to come and do a couple of show in Detroit, but the passing of John Bonham ended that. I did write to Plant and told him how saddened I was over Bonham's passing. But in '95-'96 I was able to shoot 3 shows for the Page-Plant tour. Even though I had 2 kids, my Wife told me that I had to do it and I did.

Jumping in a little late here, I agree with most of the comments. I don't think great equipment is at the top of anyone's list of assets requiref to make great images. It may be on the list but not at the top. To quote Arthur Ashe "Start where you are. Use what you have. Do what you can" Success will follow.

Very well put Reuss.I personally feel that people get too hung up on having the latest and the greatest on the equipment funk. I could display pics that came out of a 12mp camera and even a cheap film camera, Minolta 7000i, that would blow anything that the new mirrorless cameras or the high-end DSLRS of today. But, I do have an extensive array of Zeiss lenses and I do think that glass of that caliber helps an awful lot.

A better/newer camera may allow you to do more things than you can with your current camera, but ultimately, good images are the result of understanding photography—light, composition, etc., and know every aspect of your camera and how to use them. You produce the photograph, the camera merely records it as requested by the photographer.

Any equipment, camera or lens is only as good as you allow it to be. Good equipment can make good images better but well-rendered sanpshot is still a snapshot.

These lenses cover a useful range and at f/8 will give you pleasurable photos. I have and use similar "starter" lenses. I've always enjoyed blowing images up to the max to see the unseen, but that is actually a luxury I don't need. Your "eye" ability to see a composition, is the singl most important thing you may posses. Use these and "go get em" take (and analyze your technique.) Fun awaits! The 30D is a bit old, Reasonable prices can be found on newer used bodies with more abilities. In the mean time take pictures, look for the right image and grab it, have fun!

I have The Canon EOS 30-D with Canon EF-S18-55mm 1:3.5-5.6 Diameter 58mm, also Canon EF 35-80mm 1:4-5.6 III Diameter 52mm and the Canon EF 75-300mm 1: 4-5.6 III USM Diameter wasn't listed on this one.
Hopefully I can take some wildlife pictures and some closeups of flowers bees insects etc. For my use I wouldn't imagine they would be good enough for professional quality images!

It is more dependent on your vision, skills with camera and processing.

Good photographers don't take pictures, they make images by using a lot of different skills and equipment but it all starts by seeing it in your minds eye first. And yes, all that being said, even a blind squirrel finds an acorn sometimes. So I guess that adds luck to the list as well. But even luck is not all serendipity either. I think I just waxed out all my philosophical.
