In 1980 I was stationed in Neu Ulm, Germany for a tour as a newly promoted captain/company commander in an Infantry Battalion. So I decided instead of bringing my 1979 Trans Am over with me I would buy a car over there. So I found and bought a 1969 Mercedes Benz 280SL Pagoda body for 6,500 DM or about $3500 US dollars, with a removable hardtop that had 188,000 miles on the clock. When I finally left Germany in 1985 as a major, the Mercedes had 313,000 miles on the odometer and many happy memories. I never had a single problem with the car and actually sold it for $1500 more than I paid for it.

not the actual car I bought but it looked just like this one

I know a guy in the BMW motorcycle club in the UK, that a K75S (750cc) that he had for nearly 200,000 miles, that's some sore backside on a bike, eh......?!

100,000 isn't unusual for motorcycles, but that is a lot of saddle time. :D I did about 50,000, but that was on three different bikes.

Well I just have to jump in here someplace so here goes; I have worked most of my life with automobile dealers mostly with the Porsche, BMW,Sabb, Volvo, Volkswagon,lMercedes,Lotus, Audi and Chrysler-Dodge-Plymouth, Cadillac and Chevy.
And worked 27 years as a police officer. I have to say that most cars if they are taken care of, regular oil changes and just minor inspections they will last. The elements such as salted streets that most of us have to travel over will soon turn them to dust. My present vehicle a 2000 Dodge Van is perhaps one of the best and most reliable ones I have owned and I have had around 80 cars. The Dodge from living in WI., has started to rust bad. My friend who is an old time hot-rodder is replacing all of the rusted areas by "HAND MAKING" and fitting and welding the many peices that are necessary to hold it together. It is unbeleiveable how it is starting to look even better than when I bought it 10 years ago used. When I tried to trade it in on another used vehicel the guy laughed at me. Then it hit me..Replace the rusted panels and drive it till it drops. It has around 180,00 miles on it. I have no regrets at all. Thanks for the subject matter it brought back a lot of memories.

The wife's 2004 Honda Accord just turned over 260,000 miles on the clock. She puts about 125 miles on it each day as she travels between 3 hospitals - Piedmont, Gwinnett Medical Center and Northside - seeing new born babies.

Her company pays her whatever the standard mileage rate is these days. I think it's 55 cents per mile.

My 98 Dodge 3/4 ton Diesel pick-up has 458,000 miles and is still going strong. I drove it from eastern OK to northern California 6 times a couple of years ago.
