if he has said he likes the form factor of the Olympus, how about the m1 III? Add a Pro zoom lens and the 25 f1.8 for inobtrusive street shooting. There is a 25 PRO but it is larger and heavier. P.S. it might also be an easier sell to your other contributors.

A gift certificate at your local camera store. I would not want anyone choosing a camera for me.

To be completely successful, you will have to let him decide. There are too many decisions to make. Are you looking to spend a lot of money, or do you want to buy him a camera that he will like? No one could buy me the right camera because I would have to spend days researching it before I decided. Right now, I am perfectly satisfied with my Nikon D750 and two small mirrorless cameras. I can guarantee I would be disappointed with whatever anyone bought me.

Not sure I would consider Olympus because of their dim future under JIP pwnership

Then clearly, YOU should not buy one.

Alternatively you could worry about Nikon and not buy from them.

Or, you can worry that the whole industry is doomed and take up watercolors. I prefer artist grade design markers cuz I like their smell. It’s a “free market experience”.

So you have no ideas at all ? The OP asks for OUR individual wish lists WITHOUT any warnings from us that our lists may be less suitable for someone other than ourselves. Your being “perfectly satisfied” with modest choices is no help. Surely your actual wish list would be of interest. Your current satisfaction is acoarst of no interest whatsoever. Wish a bit, you have a $6000 photo-only gift certificate ... what MIRRORLESS kit would it buy ?

It is odd but I just purchased a D780 and a couple of lens and have not mastered them as of yet and all GAS has left me. I know it won't be long and it will start to return.

From that info it seems like your $6000 mirrorless wish list would be a two-lens Z7II kit. Nice !

There are several of us who wish to give a youngish father and grandfather, an experienced amateur photographer who travels (until covid-19) world-wide, a camera that he could, but would not buy for himself, for a big birthday. He is a street photographer primarily, but shoots animals (safari), birds, landscapes, sunsets...well, you get the idea.
I am in charge. I use Oly 4/3s and a Sony RX100 vi. He has admired the downsizing.
He has older Nikons and Canons, and has talked about, and looked at my smaller, mirrorless cameras. He would manage any learning curve.
In order to look efficient, I need to present to the parents and cousins a price no object mirrorless camera and lens (together we can afford it; whether we would spend...there's the rub)!
Then I need suggestions for something that tops out in the 5-6K region.
Please do not do any researching for me. Just think of your wish lists.
Thanks.
There are several of us who wish to give a youngis... (show quote)

Nikon D780, Nikkor 14-24 f2.8 and Nikkor 24-120 f4 along with a Z50 mirrorless. IMO would be perfect for anyone even not entirely mirrorless.

At this point, I am perfectly satisfied. Now if someone is asking about tools, that would be a lengthy wish list.

I looked at the D780, but it doesn't offer enough to get me to spend that much money. I like a pop-up flash, which is not included on the D780. Right now, I am perfectly satisfied. There is nothing on my horizon in any category.

I have owned a Leica Q2 for about 8 months and I think that for a street camera and other photo shoots there is no better camera. I shot Leica M3 back in my film days and I always found it to be as good and better than my own photo capabilities. The Q2 retails for $5000.00 a Leica flash small to be in keeping with the size of the Q2 runs about $518.00. There are any number of cases to fit the Q2 look on eBay, including one I found that is a full camera cover but can be opened halfway to shoot photos. As far as I am concerned No one beats Leica for color and picture quality I am moving to Leica equipment because of my age and the amount of camera and lens weight I can manage. I have been a Nikon shooter for 40 years and have accumulated a large amount of bodies, lenses, flashes, accessories, etc. When you pickup a Leica camera, it feels so comfortable and natural. The Q2 is a 47.3 full frame with a fixed Summilux 28mm f/1.7 ASPH. This lens alone for other Leica bodies, would set you back about $4 to 5k. Go to B&H Photo and take a look at all of the features. When I bought mine I just went to B&H and it was in my hands within several days. It's become so popular because of all the great features that it is in short supply. Talk to one of their very knowledgeable photo guys and they can answer all of your questions. This has become very long, but I cannot say how versatile this camera is and a real joy to own. I am on a fixed income retired and have to be careful of monies. I did a lot of soul searching to spend this amount of money on a fixed lens camera. Best camera buy I have ever made! I hope this helps you, and I think your Dad would be overwhelmed with it. Good luck in your search. Hank

Leica M10-R or Leica M10 Monochrome.
If that’s more than you want to spend—Fujifilm X100V.

Or an X-T4 and a few Leica killing XF lenses... not that
the X100V doesn't take Leica scalps as well.

Perhaps the Argus C-3 would be a good choice. aka "The Brick."
