My fastest 50 is the 1.7 (one with A and one without) and it is really fine. A 2.0 lives on my bellows for macros. Also a 135 f3.5 that is very sharp. All being used on a K3 these days.
So much fun!!

I know this topic (lens) will bring back memories for many of you. I have been collecting Takumar and a few other old lenses ever since I bought one years ago because I did not feel that I at the time could afford the Canon EF 50/1.4..

This morning is the first time I have mounted one of these 50+ year old lenses in over a year, what a delight, I had forgotten just how fun it is to shoot with these beautiful old lenses.

I used that lens for years, but especially used it for three years that I was stationed in Alaska. The lens and camera worked perfectly for me in warm or cold (and I mean 55 below zero) weather.

What did you shoot that on Blurryeyed? I have that lens on a Pentax Spotmatic, owned since 1967, picked up in Viet Nam. Don't shoot that anymore since going digital in early 90s.

I also have a Spotmatic and a few lenses. You gave me an inspiration to try those lenses on my Nikon D850. Will do a few comparisons.
Vey nice pose and pretty model.

It was mounted to a Canon R, but I have used the Asahi Takumar lenses on several Canon bodies, I don't think that you can mount them to Nikon DSLRs, if the Pentax registration distance is longer than the body you are using then a simple spacing adapter will register the lens properly on the sensor, it will work on just about any mirrorless, you just have to buy an adapter and they are relatively inexpensive, anywhere from about $7 to $25.

I have several that I shot with my Pentax SP500 and now with the Pentax K-1 digital. They are great lenses if you don't mind manual focus.

Very nice image of a real cutie! I have one of those lenses and you’ve jogged my get up and go to get out and use it. Love the bokeh!

Yes, all my Takumars are M42 mounts, with the Canon FF cameras you have to be a make sure that you are not using the original 8 element lens. the easiest way to check is probably the serial number, if the serial number on the front retaining ring of your lens is greater than 1,550,000 then it is a safe bet that yours is one of the 7 element lenses which are fine to use on the Canon FF cameras. The problem with the 8 element lens is that the rear element protrudes on the rear of the lens and when focused to infinity it can come into contact with your camera's mirror. This is only a problem with the 8 element, I have used Tamumar 50mm f/1.4 lenses on both a 6D and a 5DIV and have not had any problems whatsoever but I have never tried to mount an 8 element to anything other than a Canon APS-C body. I have owned several of the 50/1.4's, as a collector I was always buying and selling and even right now I probably have 3 or 4 of those lenses in the house including the 8 element version.

At any rate, the adapter for the Canon DSLRs is a simple spacing ring and I really don't see any sense in buying an expensive one, I have several of the cheaper ones and they work just fine. Here is a link to a seller on eBay.

I have some old m42 lens that are pretty sharp. What I use most though are Mamiya 645 lens since I have a few. Made an adapter several years ago and played with it. There weren't any available then but there are some now. Manual lens can be a real treat sometimes.
